Job description
Role overview
The League of Women Voters of the United States is seeking a strategic, forward-thinking leader to direct civic education and training efforts across its network. In this role, you will shape learning programs and resources that help state and local Leagues engage the public, build civic knowledge, and strengthen the confidence of people leading in civic spaces.
This position focuses on building practical learning tools, train-the-trainer offerings, and guidance that support affiliates nationwide. The goal is to deepen civic participation, attract new supporters, and equip communities to combat misinformation, restore trust in democratic and electoral processes, and encourage voter-centered civic involvement.
This is a remote role with travel expected about 10% to 15% of the year.
Compensation for this position is $100,000 to $110,000 per year.
Key responsibilities
- Create and execute a national education and training strategy aligned with the organization’s strategic priorities and the needs of state and local Leagues.
- Assess the training needs and capacity gaps of affiliates to identify national and regional priorities.
- Build and launch train-the-trainer programs, presentations, templates, and other learning materials that strengthen affiliate capability.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, especially the Activation and Justice and Transformation groups, to identify regional and local training needs.
- Make sure learning content is accessible, engaging, and useful for a wide range of audiences.
- Lead and support the Civic Education and Training team, encouraging innovation, teamwork, and strong execution.
- Oversee the team’s work so it stays aligned with organizational goals and priorities.
- Partner with internal teams, including Public Engagement, Innovation, and Strategic Partnerships, to build connected civic learning initiatives.
- Promote training programs and educational resources to expand their visibility and impact.
- Develop outreach approaches that increase participation in civic learning initiatives.
- Represent the organization at conferences, events, and coalition activities related to civic education and democracy-building.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline, or at least 7 years of comparable professional experience.
- 7 or more years of experience in civic education, training design, adult learning, or a related area.
- Demonstrated success in creating and delivering training programs for varied audiences.
- Strong knowledge of democracy, civic engagement, and approaches to counter misinformation.
- Background in team leadership and complex project management.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and relationship-building abilities.
- Comfort working across departments and with outside partners in a collaborative environment.
- Ability to travel to local and national offices and events as needed.
- The role is primarily sedentary, with occasional movement around an office to use equipment such as calculators, copiers, computers, and printers.
- The work setting is generally indoors, with rare exposure to wet, humid, or outdoor conditions and a moderate to low noise level.
- Reasonable accommodations may be provided to support candidates with disabilities in performing essential duties.
