Role overview
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas is seeking a Director for Benefits and Human Capital Management (HCM) Support. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Human Resources, this leader provides strategic direction and day-to-day oversight for benefits, leave administration, ADA accommodation processing, temporary employment, and HCM support. The role is designed to strengthen employee service delivery, ensure compliance with university, NSHE, state, and federal requirements, and improve processes across the employee lifecycle.
Key responsibilities
This position acts as the main institutional lead for benefits administration and supervises service areas that include health, welfare, retirement, and voluntary benefits. It also oversees leave and absence programs such as FMLA, sick and annual leave, catastrophic leave, leave audits, and ADA workplace accommodation handling. In addition, the director manages temporary employment processes and HCM transaction support, including non-recruited appointments, letters of appointment, temporary hourly employees, student employees, and Workday transaction triage. The role requires close collaboration with university leadership, campus partners, NSHE institutions, Business Center South, and outside vendors to align priorities, review plan options, support procurement and RFP activity, study utilization and market trends, and advance HR initiatives.

Qualifications
Candidates should hold a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related discipline, along with eight years of progressively responsible HR experience. That experience must include at least five years in benefits, leave administration, HR operations, or a similar area, plus three years in a supervisory or management capacity. Applicants without a bachelor’s degree may qualify through an associate’s degree with two additional years of relevant experience, or by replacing the degree requirement with four additional years of relevant experience.
Background and compliance
The selected finalist must undergo a criminal background check. During hiring, academic credentials may be verified, and if they cannot be confirmed, the highest-degree official transcript must be submitted within thirty days of the first day of employment. For some roles, candidates may also need to demonstrate the ability to perform job-related tasks. If driving is required, a valid driver’s license must be provided at the time of employment and maintained as a condition of continued employment.
Compensation and benefits
The salary range for this role is $130,000 to $140,000, or commensurate with the labor market.
