Job description

About the Position

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) is seeking a Director for Benefits and Human Capital Management (HCM) Support, with a flexible working schedule. Reporting directly to the Assistant Vice President of Human Resources, this role leads strategic planning and operational management across benefits administration, leave management, ADA accommodations, temporary employment, and HCM support functions. The position ensures programs are effectively delivered throughout the employee lifecycle in compliance with all relevant policies and regulations. Key responsibilities include setting operational standards, monitoring service quality, driving continuous improvements, and guiding complex HR matters.

This leadership role acts as the primary institutional contact for benefits, overseeing NSHE- and state-sponsored health, welfare, retirement, and voluntary benefits such as RPA, PERS, tax-sheltered annuities, deferred compensation, medical and supplemental insurance, Section 125 programs, and additional employee benefits. It also directs leave and absence programs including FMLA, sick and annual leave, catastrophic leave, audits, and workplace accommodations under ADA. The Director manages temporary employment processes and HCM transactional support, including non-recruited appointments, letters of appointment, student employees, temporary hourly personnel, and Workday transaction triage. Developing partnerships with university leadership, campus stakeholders, NSHE institutions, vendors, and Business Center South partners is essential, focusing on aligning priorities, enhancing service delivery, evaluating benefit plans, supporting procurement and RFPs, analyzing trends, and advancing strategic HR initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • At least eight years of progressively responsible human resources experience, including a minimum of five years overseeing benefits, leave administration, or HR operations.
  • At least three years of supervisory or managerial experience.
  • Alternatively, an associate degree plus two additional years of relevant experience, or four additional years of relevant experience without a degree, may qualify.

Additional Information

  • A criminal background check is required for the final candidate.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusiveness, and fostering a respectful work environment aligned with UNLV's Campus Values.
  • Salary range between $130,000 and $140,000 annually, commensurate with experience and market conditions.

Benefits and Perks

  • Comprehensive benefits including paid time off, sick leave, and holidays.
  • Health insurance covering medical, dental, and vision plans.
  • Robust retirement and voluntary benefits programs.
  • No state income tax.
  • Tuition discounts for employees, spouses, domestic partners, and dependents at NSHE institutions.
  • Employee recognition programs and UNLV athletics ticket discounts.
  • Discounts on statewide employee purchase programs and campus/off-campus via RebelCard.
  • Free wellness programming for faculty and staff.
  • Opportunities for career advancement and professional development.
  • Comprehensive onboarding program.
  • Veteran support resources and encouragement to apply.

Application Process and Important Notes

Applicants must submit a cover letter addressing qualifications, a detailed résumé, and contact information for at least three professional references. References will only be contacted with prior notification. Electronic submission through UNLV’s Workday system is required; emailed materials will not be accepted. Review of applications begins August 2, 2026, and the posting closes December 31, 2026. Internal NSHE employees must apply via the internal Workday process to avoid application delays.
