Job description

The opportunity

AFC Scholarship Fund is assembling the nationwide digital foundation for the Education Freedom Tax Credit (EFTC), a major new philanthropic pathway in U.S. education. Once the credit goes live in January 2027, supporters will be able to claim a federal dollar-for-dollar tax credit of up to $1,700 for donations made to scholarship-granting organizations such as this one. The organization is working quickly to make that opportunity easy to access, compelling, and impactful.

The Digital Marketing Specialist will lead the organization’s everyday digital marketing execution. This person will own email marketing, keep the website and blog accurate and up to date, and help establish organic social as a growing channel for the future. The role is broad rather than narrowly focused, requiring someone who can contribute across the team and step into whatever digital task is needed to advance the mission.

If you are a practical marketer who enjoys owning channels, thrives in a fast-paced setting, and wants your work to matter at a national level, this opportunity may be a strong fit.

Core focus areas

Email marketing will be the primary direct line to donors, partners, and supporters. You will manage campaigns from start to finish in Iterable, covering donor acquisition, nurturing, re-engagement, and transactional communications. You will refine audience segmentation, draft and edit copy, manage templates, and work with creative and content teammates on assets. You will also monitor deliverability and engagement metrics such as opens, clicks, and conversions, using the data to improve performance. As the donor base grows, you will help develop automated lifecycle journeys.

Website and content responsibilities center on keeping the site useful, current, and optimized for conversion. You will publish and format blog posts, news updates, and resource content in WordPress, complete routine updates across landing pages, FAQs, team bios, partner profiles, and similar pages, and work with SEO and content colleagues to implement on-page improvements. You will also test pages across browsers and devices, coordinate fixes with the web platform team, and maintain a clear publishing workflow and content calendar.

Organic social is an emerging priority, and you will help build its foundation over time. That includes identifying the right platforms for donors, advocates, and partners; shaping a posting cadence and voice that reflects the brand; creating and scheduling content; sourcing or producing visuals; engaging with the community; and reviewing results to understand what is effective. You will also collaborate with the wider team to amplify campaigns, announcements, and partner moments.

Cross-functional digital support is a key part of the role. You will assist with campaign launches, landing page coordination, audience setup, partner activation materials, event promotion, and paid media support when needed. You will also help maintain the marketing calendar, keep efforts aligned across channels, and contribute to special projects as additional support is required.

What success in this role looks like

You are someone who notices what needs to happen and takes ownership without waiting to be directed. You are comfortable running email, publishing to a CMS, and managing social channels in a professional setting. Your writing is clear and concise, your subject lines are effective, and your social content earns engagement. You pay close attention to metrics, know which numbers matter, and use them to improve results. You are flexible, collaborative, and able to move between projects without slowing the team down. You also connect with the mission and believe educational opportunity should not depend on ZIP code.

Experience and qualifications

The ideal candidate brings 3 to 5 years of experience in digital marketing and has hands-on ownership of at least two of the main channels in this role: email, web, or social. Direct experience with an email marketing platform is expected, and Iterable experience is especially valuable. You should also be comfortable editing and publishing in WordPress or another comparable content management system.

Strong writing and copy-editing ability is important, along with the ability to adjust tone for different channels and audiences. Familiarity with basic analytics tools, such as Google Analytics and platform-native dashboards, is needed, along with a habit of using data to guide decisions. Experience in nonprofit, advocacy, or mission-driven marketing is a plus, though not mandatory.

Why this role matters

AFC Scholarship Fund is building something new: a national donor platform tied to a federal tax credit that could significantly change how Americans support education. The EFTC begins in January 2027, and every email sent, web update made, and social post published before then is part of laying that foundation.

The team is small and the work is urgent. You will report directly to the Director, Growth and collaborate with senior marketers, technology specialists, and leadership that moves quickly and thinks ambitiously. The work will be visible, the ownership real, and the mission significant.
