Job description

About Dyson

Dyson is a leading global technology firm focused on addressing overlooked problems by designing innovative, superior machines through inventive engineering and rigorous testing. Committed to breaking conventional norms, Dyson constantly pushes boundaries to develop products that excel in utility and uniqueness.

Role Overview

We are initiating development on a confidential, new product category and invite a Design Engineer to join our Singapore Technology Centre. In this role, you will help tackle unfamiliar challenges, question assumptions, and transform bold concepts into tangible engineered products ready for testing and manufacturing.

Working within our Singapore Design Engineering Team, you will be instrumental in advancing new product innovations from initial ideation through to mass production. Collaborating closely with a multidisciplinary team, you will employ practical design expertise, systematic problem-solving, and sound engineering judgment to develop components, assemblies, and systems that adhere to Dyson's strict standards for performance, reliability, safety, quality, cost, and user experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop parts and assemblies meeting function, performance, reliability, safety, quality, cost, and schedule requirements.
  • Define clear design requirements by understanding technical, regulatory, manufacturing, and cost constraints of the problem.
  • Create and evaluate multiple design concepts systematically to identify optimal solutions and trade-offs.
  • Implement design for manufacture and assembly principles to ensure robust and production-ready designs.
  • Produce and review 3D CAD models, 2D drawings, tolerance analyses, and engineering documentation supporting design lifecycle.
  • Build and evaluate functional prototypes and test rigs for validation and demonstration purposes.
  • Develop and support test protocols reflective of user behavior, product scenarios, and failure cases.
  • Analyze testing outcomes and design failures to determine root causes and devise corrective measures.
  • Manage personal workflow effectively, monitor progress, and proactively communicate potential risks or impediments.
  • Participate actively in design reviews and technical discussions, clearly articulating design reasoning and evidence-based recommendations.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams including senior engineers, suppliers, manufacturing, quality, procurement, and global engineering counterparts.
  • Document design rationale, lessons learned, and technical evidence to support continuous improvement and future decision-making.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Mechatronics, Science, or other closely related technical fields.
  • At least two years of experience in mechanical design or product development roles.
  • Proven expertise designing plastic, rubber, metal, and mechanical assemblies with strong knowledge of design for manufacture and assembly strategies.
  • Hands-on experience with 3D CAD software, 2D drawings, GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, and related documentation with ability to oversee design outputs.
  • Competent in applying established engineering processes and best practices to achieve reliable designs.
  • Ability to translate complex technical requirements and constraints into practical design solutions.
  • Methodical approach to problem-solving utilizing prototyping, testing, data analysis, and evidence to guide engineering choices.
  • Comfortable adapting to fast-paced, ambiguous development settings managing priorities independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong communication skills to explain technical concepts, rationale, risks, and recommendations to diverse stakeholders.
  • Energetic, inquisitive, and creative with a strong motivation to learn and advance engineering solutions.
  • Additional knowledge of manufacturing techniques, supplier collaboration, industrial measurements, product testing, or specialized fields such as thermals, acoustics, fluid dynamics, electronics, mechanical mechanisms, or human factors will be advantageous.
  • A sincere passion for engineering and commitment to creating significantly improved product solutions.

Diversity and Equal Opportunity

Dyson champions diversity and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer, embracing applicants from all backgrounds without discrimination based on race, religion, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability status, veteran status, or any other characteristic.
