About the Role
Join Bunnings as a Department Manager where you will oversee daily operations, sales, and high-volume stock management within your specific department. Collaborate closely with other department managers in areas including Service, Inside the Home, Builders, and Lifestyles & Garden, reporting directly to the Operations Manager and Complex Manager. Lead and support a team of over 20 members to deliver outstanding customer service, operational excellence, and maintain our extensive product range with competitive pricing.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and maintain a motivated and safe work environment for a team exceeding 20 staff members, including duty manager responsibilities such as opening and closing the store on weekdays and weekends.
- Develop team skills focused on delivering Best Experience, fostering a strong safety culture, compliance, engagement, and performance management.
- Manage rostering and strategically plan to ensure exceptional service delivery, driving department sales through strong merchandising and monitoring essential performance metrics.
- Respond to and act on customer feedback to enhance the customer journey.
- Take ownership of department stock accuracy, including regular adjustments, disciplined replenishment, and prevention of stock loss.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is a highly motivated leader with strong influencing abilities and prior experience managing teams, preferably within retail or large, high-volume customer-centric organizations. A focus on safety, wellbeing, and team development is essential. Candidates should be adaptable, able to manage multiple responsibilities, and capable of understanding and exceeding key performance indicators while ensuring excellent customer satisfaction.
Requirements
- Proven leadership skills managing teams of 20 or more, fostering engagement, coaching, and cooperation.
- Experience leading in retail environments or comparable high-volume customer service settings.
- Commitment to promoting a safe and secure workplace, modeling safety leadership, and ensuring adherence to policies and procedures.
- Confidence in managing store opening and closing procedures, supporting smooth operations during weekdays and weekends.
- Ability to develop team capabilities through clear goal-setting, constructive feedback, and recognition.
- Strong retail operational knowledge including merchandising excellence, salesmanship, stock accuracy, availability, and loss prevention.

- This role includes working at least one weekend day in every three weeks and occasionally on public holidays.
