Role Overview
The Delivery Specialist role involves delivering purchased merchandise to customers within a defined market while maintaining high standards for delivery timeliness and product quality. The individual will strive to provide an outstanding customer experience by establishing trusted relationships, offering knowledgeable guidance, ensuring safe product delivery, resolving issues, and processing returns as necessary.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain consistent and reliable attendance.
- Ensure deliveries occur punctually, meeting or exceeding scheduled times.
- Operate and maintain a clean, organized delivery vehicle and related equipment, including trailers when required.
- Safely load, unload, and arrange merchandise efficiently.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to verify vehicle safety and readiness.
- Maintain accurate delivery logs, including any encountered issues.
- Communicate proactively with customers, offering updates and addressing concerns during delivery.
- Deliver excellent customer service by fostering positive and friendly interactions.
- Collaborate with field sales teams and store staff to meet customer needs.
- Handle products carefully to prevent damage and ensure safe transport.
- Adhere to all traffic regulations and company safety policies for driving.
- Manage returns, exchanges, and customer inquiries as required.
Qualifications and Experience
- At least 21 years old with a minimum of three years driving experience and a clean Motor Vehicle Record.
- Truck delivery experience is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Preferred familiarity with equipment such as hand trucks, dollies, pallet jacks, and forklifts.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- DOT Medical Card as required by regulations.
Skills and Abilities
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving history.
- Physical and mental endurance to move quickly and safely in store and outdoor settings.
- Capability to push or pull merchandise weighing up to 2,000 pounds using proper material handling tools.
- Skillful and safe operation of job-related equipment.
- Ability to lift and transport bulky or heavy items.
- Expertise in safely loading and unloading delivery trucks.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook and calendar management.
- Strong time management to meet deadlines.
- Excellent customer service, coupled with professional and courteous demeanor.
- Effective written and oral communication skills for team and customer interactions.
- Basic literacy and numeracy to accurately complete documentation.
- Competency with GPS navigation and map reading.
- Willingness to complete all required training sessions.
- Flexibility to work varying shifts, including evenings and weekends.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
- Regular interaction with mechanical equipment.
- Operate in all weather and road conditions within assigned delivery zones.
- Moderate noise levels in the work setting.
- Physical activities include sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, stooping, bending, driving, reaching overhead, and lifting over 50 pounds.
