About the Role

This position involves working as part of Google's Hardware Operations team, responsible for maintaining and supporting the cutting-edge infrastructure behind Google’s extensive search technology. The role includes installing, configuring, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining hardware such as servers and network equipment, including routers, switches, and networking protocols. Tasks extend to physically demanding work such as moving and installing racks, and participation in small project teams for larger deployments.

Responsibilities

  • Deploy and manage new data center infrastructure across projects or departments.
  • Identify and resolve straightforward issues with data center equipment by following established troubleshooting procedures.
  • Ensure security and integrity of data by monitoring and tracking forms of media to prevent security breaches, adhering to Google's security standards.
  • Disassemble outdated equipment through part replacement or maintenance collaboratively with the team.
  • Perform repairs and preventative maintenance on infrastructure and equipment, working with limited supervision.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience in component-level repairs and troubleshooting of technical hardware.
  • Knowledge in diagnosing and troubleshooting at least one of the following: operating systems, computer/server hardware, or networking protocols.
  • Physical capability to lift or move up to 50 pounds (23 kg) and endure prolonged physical activity including bending, kneeling, climbing, pushing, and pulling.
  • Willingness and ability to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, holidays, and shift rotations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • Completion of the Google IT Support Professional Certificate program.
  • Two years of experience in diagnosing and troubleshooting operating systems, computer/server hardware, or networking protocols.
  • Experience performing component-level repairs or a similar role such as Systems Administration, Network Deployment Engineer, or Help Desk Technician.
  • Previous experience working in a data center or network operations center environment.
  • Ability to collaborate across teams and adapt to changes in a fast-paced work environment.

Compensation

The estimated salary range is $86,000 to $119,000 per year, supplemented by a 15% target bonus, equity incentives, and a comprehensive benefits package. Remuneration is based on skill level, experience, and education.
