Job description

Role overview

Totara Dairy is looking for a practical, motivated Dairy Farm Assistant to join a strong, collaborative team on a well-run farm near Westport. This is a great opportunity to build hands-on capability across a wide range of modern dairy farming work while being supported to keep developing your career.

What the job involves

You will be involved in day-to-day dairy operations and gain exposure to both core farm tasks and more advanced systems used on a larger operation. The role includes milking, calving, feeding stock, effluent handling, spraying, fencing, shed routines, animal health care, mating programmes, and moving stock using Halter technology.

The farm is a progressive, high-performing business with a focus on environmental care and continuous improvement. It sits within a wider group of five Pāmu farms in Westport and currently follows a 6 on, 2 off roster.

About the farm

Totara Dairy is located about ten minutes from Westport in the West Coast region of New Zealand. The property covers 480 effective hectares and milks 1,100 cows through a modern 60-bale rotary shed fitted with milk hub technology, automatic cup removers, and automatic teat spraying.

What we are looking for

We are seeking someone who is enthusiastic, willing to get stuck in, and keen to contribute to a high-performing team. You should be eager to learn, comfortable working both independently and alongside others, and ready to help drive good outcomes on farm.

Additional information

This position offers a three-bedroom house. Applications are being reviewed as they come in, and the role may close once suitable candidates have been identified. The employer will contact applicants during the application process. Successful candidates must attend an in-person interview, hold unrestricted legal permission to work in New Zealand, and cannot be on a temporary work visa for this permanent role. Before appointment, you will also need to pass a drug and alcohol test and complete a criminal background check.

Pāmu describes its workplace culture through the values Grounded, Genuine, Bold, and Shoulder-to-Shoulder. Pāmu is the trading name of Landcorp Farming Limited, and the successful applicant will be employed by Landcorp Farming Limited.

Benefits

This role comes with a competitive salary package, health and life insurance, enhanced parental leave support, up to 4% KiwiSaver matching, an extra day of leave over Christmas, and ongoing training and development. The team environment is described as supportive and inclusive.
