Job description
Role overview
Join Exeter Calf Rearing as a Dairy Calf General and support the Dairy Beef programme through the peak calving period. This is a fixed-term, hands-on farm position running until the end of December 2026, based at a purpose-built calf-rearing facility just a short drive from Taupō.
The role offers flexible hours with rostered days and a drive-in/drive-out arrangement. It is well suited to someone who enjoys active outdoor work, handling animals, and contributing to a close team in a busy and rewarding farming environment.
What you will do
You will work with the farm team on a range of day-to-day calf-rearing tasks, including identifying calves, scanning, weighing, and moving newborn animals. Part of the job will involve collecting calves from around the farm, processing them through the yards, and helping maintain high standards of animal care and welfare.
No two days will look the same in this practical role, and you will be involved in physical work throughout the day.
About the farm
Pāmu Landcorp Farming Limited is a state-owned enterprise operating more than 110 farms throughout New Zealand, with a focus on innovative and sustainable agriculture for future generations.
Exeter Calf Rearing is located around 15 minutes from central Taupō. The farm is 130 effective hectares with modern infrastructure, including a purpose-built shed that can house up to 660 calves at once. The site is designed to support efficient, large-scale calf rearing in a well-equipped environment.
The farm aims to rear 2,400 calves in autumn and 3,600 calves in spring.
About you
You should be comfortable working outdoors, staying active for most of the day, and handling calves in a calm and safe manner. The work can be physically demanding, so good stamina and fitness are important. You must also be able to lift up to 20 kg.
Eligibility and terms
Applicants need to be available for an in-person interview and must have unrestricted legal permission to work in New Zealand. People on temporary work visas cannot be considered for permanent opportunities. A drug and alcohol test, as well as a criminal background check, will be required before appointment.
The role is open until midnight on Sunday 12 July 2026. Applications may be progressed before the closing date, so early interest is encouraged. For more information, contact Brett Dewer, Farm Manager, at dewerb@landcorp.co.nz.
Pāmu values a safe workplace and a supportive, inclusive culture. Its values are Grounded, Genuine, Bold, and Shoulder-to-Shoulder. The successful applicant will be employed by Landcorp Farming Limited, which trades under the Pāmu brand.
Additional notes
This opportunity is described as a drive-in/drive-out role with flexible hours and rostered days. Some livestock experience is preferred, although training can be provided to someone with the right attitude. A full and current driver licence is required, along with a strong focus on health and safety, animal welfare, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently.
