Role Overview

The Custodian supports the Custodial Coordinator by maintaining cleanliness and order within campus buildings. Tasks involve sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, setting up events, restroom cleaning, washing walls, wiping whiteboards, emptying trash, and caring for custodial equipment. Uniforms and protective gear are supplied and must be worn at all times. This role reports to the Custodial Coordinator and the Executive Director of Plant Operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure buildings are clean and hygienic, creating a welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors.
• Contribute to student recruitment and retention initiatives through supportive participation.
• Maintain consistency and fairness in interactions with the campus community irrespective of race, gender, or sexual orientation.
• Promote workplace safety within the custodial department.
• Perform custodial tasks year-round with a focus on cleanliness and tidiness following supervisory guidance.
• Efficiently manage tasks independently including event setup, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and trash disposal.
• Safely lift and handle up to 50 pounds as required.
• Carry out additional related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Understanding of safety protocols applicable to custodial duties.
• Proficiency in operating cleaning equipment such as carpet shampooers, buffers, and vacuums.
• Effective communication skills in both individual and group settings.
• Ability to build and sustain positive relationships across the campus community.
• Receptiveness and adherence to instructions from supervisors.

Qualifications

• At minimum, a high school diploma or equivalent.
• At least three years of custodial experience.
• Possession of a valid driver's license.

Salary and Additional Information

The salary range for this position is $28,150 to $33,077 annually. Application review begins no sooner than seven days post-posting.
