Day Porter (Custodian) - Full Time - Bessemer, AL

Position Overview

The Day Porter will ensure that the school facilities are consistently neat, clean, and well-maintained, creating a welcoming and safe environment for staff, students, and visitors. This role demands a hands-on approach to upkeep, rapid response to cleaning needs, and strong communication skills.

Primary Responsibilities

• Carry out routine cleaning tasks in common spaces including lobbies, hallways, and waiting areas.
• Regularly inspect, clean, and restock restrooms with necessary supplies such as soap and paper towels.
• Frequently disinfect commonly touched surfaces like door handles, light switches, counters, and elevator buttons.
• Promptly attend to spills and urgent cleaning requests.
• Empty trash and recycling bins multiple times daily to maintain cleanliness.
• Engage courteously and professionally with school personnel, students, and visitors.
• Keep janitorial supplies organized and manage inventory levels effectively.
• Follow safety protocols in handling cleaning chemicals and observe all health regulations.
• Report any unusual occurrences, equipment malfunctions, or damage to the facility.
• Adhere to security guidelines as required by contract.
• Wear the company's designated uniform shirt and maintain a professional demeanor.
• Perform additional duties as required within the contractual obligations.

Candidate Requirements

• Team-oriented mindset with willingness to perform assigned duties as needed.
• Ability to successfully pass a fingerprint-based criminal background check.
• Preferred experience: At least one year working as a Day Porter in a K-12 school environment.
• Capability to perform physical tasks including standing, sitting, and lifting up to 25 pounds without limitation.
• Must be aged 18 years or older.

Other Details

• Full-time position operating Monday through Friday, from 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
• Location: Bessemer Elementary School, Bessemer, AL.
• Proposed start date: June 1st.
• Compensation starts at $13 per hour.
• May involve some light classroom setup and takedown tasks.
