Role Overview
The Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services is hiring two full-time Custodians for the CT Mental Health Center in New Haven. This role supports the cleanliness, safety, and day-to-day upkeep of a state mental health facility.
Schedule
- First shift: 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM
- Monday through Friday
- 37.5 hours per week
What the Position Involves
- Carrying out routine custodial cleaning in patient-facing spaces
- Using cleaning equipment to dust, mop, sweep, scrub, strip, wax, and polish floors
- Cleaning glass surfaces, windows, woodwork, walls, furniture, and metal fixtures
- Collecting trash and soiled laundry for proper disposal
- Identifying repair issues and completing small maintenance tasks
Examples of Daily Duties
- Cleaning and maintaining areas such as offices, wards, kitchens, dining spaces, lavatories, dormitories, classrooms, and auditoriums, including exterior trash around buildings
- Making beds and handling linens, blankets, and clothing within the assigned work area
- Collecting, counting, distributing, emptying, and sterilizing soiled items and basic equipment such as glassware, wash basins, and bedpans
- Sweeping outdoor walkways and removing trash from the premises
- Reporting maintenance concerns and inspecting areas for damage
- Changing bulbs, replacing fuses, tightening hinges, lubricating parts, replacing tiles, and performing similar minor repairs when needed
- Removing snow and ice from stairs and walkways and applying sand or salt when required
- Moving furniture and helping with classroom setup
- Running errands and completing related duties as assigned

About the Agency and Facility
DMHAS focuses on improving the health and well-being of people with behavioral health needs through a coordinated service network that promotes dignity, respect, and self-sufficiency. The CT Mental Health Center delivers broad mental health treatment for individuals with serious behavioral health disorders who often use emergency hospital services, have involvement with the court system, and need ongoing clinical support for stability, medication management, and treatment.

Additional Requirements
