Role overview
The Western Connecticut Mental Health Network, part of the State of Connecticut’s Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, is hiring a Maintainer in Waterbury to support facilities and operations work across the site. This role is a hands-on, on-site position focused on keeping buildings, grounds, vehicles, and common areas in safe working order.
Schedule and location
- Workdays: Monday through Friday
- Hours: 37.5 hours per week
- Shift: First shift, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- Work location: 95 Thomaston Ave, Waterbury, CT
What you will do
- Handle small building repair tasks and general maintenance support.
- Clear snow from entrances and vehicles, including applying sand when needed.
- Track routine upkeep for state vehicles and transport vehicles to Fleet when required.
- Record and monitor basic safety checks such as fire extinguishers and smoke detectors.
- Ensure state vehicles are stocked with the supplies they need.
- Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces across the three Waterbury sites.
- Order maintenance and custodial supplies for the Waterbury locations.
- Move furniture and remove trash as needed.
- Support other WCMHN locations when required.
- Communicate with the landlord about facility issues and building needs.
- Coordinate with outside vendors for repairs and pest-control services.
- Complete simple recordkeeping and related duties tied to maintenance work.
- Assist skilled workers by carrying tools, moving materials, and helping with basic trade tasks.
- Carry out preventive maintenance and minor repairs in building systems, grounds care, and related areas as assigned.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Ability to follow spoken and written directions.
- Willingness to learn workplace procedures and policies.
- Capacity to use, care for, and do minor upkeep on tools and equipment used in day-to-day work.
- Ability to keep basic records.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Preferred background
- Use of common office software such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
- Customer service experience with professionalism, responsiveness, and effective teamwork.
- Clear communication skills, both spoken and written.
- Experience working in a fast-paced, high-volume setting while staying organized, efficient, and detail-oriented.

Special requirements
The hiring authority may require the selected candidate to hold and maintain any needed licenses, permits, or certifications.
