Job description

Position Overview

This role is based in the 18th Judicial District in Wichita, Kansas, focused on conducting Presentence Investigations within District Court jurisdictions. The officer compiles detailed criminal histories, conducts interviews, and performs urinalysis and breathalyzer tests. They prepare comprehensive pre-sentence reports that assist the court in making informed decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough research and documentation of criminal histories for District Court cases.
  • Interview involved parties, communicating effectively and sensitively.
  • Administer urinalysis and breathalyzer testing as required.
  • Compile and prepare detailed pre-sentence investigation reports for judicial review.
  • Work primarily independently under general guidance from a senior officer, with performance evaluated through reports and conferences.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in corrections, counseling, criminology, psychology, social work, sociology, or a closely associated discipline.
  • Familiarity with interviewing techniques and strong proficiency in computer applications.
  • Excellent command of English, including grammar and writing formats, ensuring clear and concise communication.
  • Detail-oriented approach with strong organizational skills.
  • Must obtain certification within one year and maintain annual certification thereafter for SASSI (Substance Abuse Subtle Screening Inventory), WRNA (Women's Risk Needs and Assessment), and LS/CMI (Level of Service/Case Management Inventory).

The position is classified as Court Services Officer I, Grade 36, with an hourly wage of $29.07. Applicants will be considered until the role is filled.
