Role Overview
The position of Country Director for New Zealand calls for an entrepreneurial and commercially savvy professional responsible for expanding and managing SkillOnNet’s key market in New Zealand. This role encompasses full ownership of marketing, commercial results, and local market operations, as well as recruiting and guiding a capable team to work effectively across different time zones.
The incumbent will drive consistent growth through customer acquisition, brand awareness, retention strategies, and commercial efficiency. Collaboration with central departments such as marketing, CRM, affiliates, product, compliance, and operations is essential to adapt and implement global strategies locally.
In addition to overseeing marketing, the Country Director will develop an independent local market team to maintain supplier and stakeholder relations, handle operational needs, product testing and improvements, ensure regulatory compliance, and enhance customer experiences. Representing New Zealand customers internally, the role identifies growth opportunities and influences business choices aligned with long-term success.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead New Zealand market strategy, achieve performance targets, and manage profit and loss objectives.
- Develop plans that boost customer acquisition, retention, revenue, and market share.
- Analyze market opportunities, trends, and competitors to support informed commercial decisions.
- Advocate for New Zealand customer needs throughout the organization.
- Formulate brand development and acquisition marketing plans tailored to the local market.
- Manage all customer acquisition channels including TV, radio, sponsorships, print, outdoor advertising, PR, digital marketing, affiliates, and performance media.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external agencies to maximize campaign effectiveness.
- Oversee significant annual marketing budgets, forecasts, and target metrics.
- Serve as local brand champion, adapting global positioning and materials, while creating custom campaigns as needed.
- Perform pre- and post-campaign analyses to evaluate ROI, CPA, and identify areas for improvement.
- Recruit, lead, and develop a skilled local team supporting diverse market functions.
- Provide leadership through coaching, succession planning, and professional growth opportunities.
- Coordinate operational projects and promote cooperation between local and central teams.
- Address local customer experience and process needs to enhance business performance.
- Partner with product teams for testing, customer feedback, market validation, and product enhancements.
- Ensure all local products, promotions, and communications are optimized and relevant.
- Manage relationships with local suppliers, agencies, media partners, and other third parties.
- Lead agency selection, contract negotiations, and ongoing commercial management activities.
- Collaborate with legal, compliance, and regulatory teams to meet New Zealand’s gaming laws and responsible gaming standards.
- Stay informed on regulatory changes and industry trends that may impact performance.
Candidate Profile
- At least 7 years of senior leadership experience in commercial, marketing, or country management within a high-volume B2C sector.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience specifically in the New Zealand online gaming industry.
- Proven success in launching, expanding, or growing consumer brands within New Zealand.
- Strong commercial skills including ownership of market results, budgeting, business planning, and growth targets.
- Comprehensive knowledge of New Zealand advertising, media, and digital marketing environments.
- Proven ability to manage considerable above-the-line and performance marketing budgets through all phases.
- Experience in leading and developing high-performing teams.
- Effective stakeholder management, including managing agencies, suppliers, and partners.
- Cross-functional teamwork with product, operations, compliance, and customer service units.
- Familiarity with New Zealand gaming regulations and responsible gambling practices.
