General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), a member of the General Atomics group, is a leading provider of remotely piloted aircraft, tactical reconnaissance radars, and sophisticated high-resolution surveillance technologies.

Position Overview

We seek a Cost Estimator to join our Airport Business Management (ABM) team. This full-time role is based at Flight Operations in Palmdale, CA. The schedule is flexible, featuring a 9/80 workweek (every other Friday off), one remote day weekly, and a company rideshare option.

Key Responsibilities

  • Calculate cost factors and develop Basis of Estimates (BOEs) for managing planning, organizing, scheduling, bidding, and evaluating cost-efficiency.
  • Aggregate and analyze statistical data to estimate Flight Operations costs accurately.
  • Perform analyses to define standard labor hours and related expenditure, identifying cost-saving opportunities.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and subject matter experts to collect necessary data.
  • Review specifications and proposals to estimate time and labor for various projects or services.
  • Examine estimating plans, program data, and assumptions to assess labor requirements and prepare BOEs.
  • Source labor hour data for cost analysis within Flight Operations.
  • Support or lead pre-award, post-award, and investigative audits.
  • Manage and update electronic cost estimating databases.
  • Generate analytical reports including charts and graphs summarizing findings.
  • Enhance cost estimation processes applying organizational change management techniques.
  • Comply with all relevant laws, regulations, and company policies at all times.
  • Maintain a safe and efficient working environment per established protocols.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree is typically required, complemented by at least three years of experience in finance, accounting, or business administration. Equivalent experience may substitute for formal education.
  • Possess a fundamental understanding of cost concepts, principles, and common practices.
  • Experience within contracting environments, strong negotiation skills, and the ability to resolve complex costing issues.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills alongside strong interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficiency in relevant computer applications, especially spreadsheets.
  • Willingness to work additional hours as needed.
