Position Overview
A reputable tertiary-care hospital in Abu Dhabi is seeking a skilled Consultant Pediatric Emergency Medicine Physician to join their Pediatric Emergency Department. This role requires delivering expert, prompt, and empathetic emergency care for infants, children, and adolescents. The candidate will also play a pivotal role in departmental leadership, quality enhancement, and collaborative multidisciplinary work.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough emergency evaluations and manage pediatric patients with acute medical, surgical, and trauma-related conditions.
- Handle cases involving respiratory distress, seizures, dehydration, infections, allergic reactions, and emergencies needing resuscitation & stabilization.
- Lead pediatric resuscitation efforts, including advanced airway management, establishing vascular access, and life-saving interventions.
- Perform emergency procedures such as lumbar punctures, fracture reductions with splinting, wound repair, and procedural sedation.
- Coordinate treatment with pediatric subspecialists, surgeons, intensivists, and fellow emergency physicians to ensure comprehensive care.
- Maintain safe and streamlined patient flow within the Pediatric Emergency Department.
- Contribute to strategic planning and development of pediatric emergency services, clinical pathways, guidelines, and quality improvement measures.
- Engage in morbidity and mortality reviews, clinical audits, and governance activities.
- Mentor and train junior doctors, residents, and nursing staff.
- Communicate clearly and compassionately with families about diagnoses, treatment plans, and follow-up instructions.
- Foster a child-friendly, culturally sensitive environment, supporting families through challenging and critical situations.
- Participate actively in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows as well as clinical research, case presentations, continuing medical education, and departmental representation at conferences and community health events.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Medical degree (MD or MBBS) from an accredited medical school.
- Board certification in Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics with PEM fellowship, or Emergency Medicine with pediatric focus (e.g., American Board, Royal College, Arab Board, or equivalent).
- At least 8 to 10 years of post-specialization experience including consultant-level practice.
- Demonstrated expertise in pediatric resuscitation, trauma care, and acute emergency management.
- Exceptional communication, leadership, and collaborative skills.
- Proficiency in English; knowledge of Arabic is a beneficial addition.
