Job description
Role Overview
The Wek’èezhìı Renewable Resources Board, created under the Tlicho Agreement, is responsible for the stewardship of wildlife, plant, and forest resources in Wek’èezhìı. The organization is looking to add a full-time Conservation Biologist for an 18-month appointment running from May 6, 2024 to November 7, 2025.
What You’ll Do
Working under the Executive Director, you will support the Board with scientific research, monitoring, and management guidance related to species at risk, plants, forests, and protected areas.
Work Conditions
This role involves flexible scheduling, including evening, weekend, and holiday work when needed. The position also calls for frequent travel throughout Wek’èezhìı, including travel by small aircraft to all communities in the region.
Qualifications
A Bachelor of Science or Master of Science in Environmental Sciences, or a closely related discipline, is required.
Experience and Core Strengths
Applicants should bring at least 3 years of experience in renewable resource research and monitoring, administration, and project management. Prior work with northern communities and/or in cross-cultural environments is important. Strong analytical and communication abilities are also needed, especially for technical review, data analysis, applying scientific methods, and working with traditional knowledge approaches.
Preferred Assets
Training and experience in renewable resource management will be considered an advantage. The ability to speak the Tlicho language is also an asset.
Employment Conditions
Successful candidates must be willing to complete a medical declaration, criminal records check, standard first aid, and provide a driver’s abstract.
Compensation and Benefits
Pay is negotiable based on qualifications and experience. The package includes a northern allowance and benefits. Relocation assistance may also be negotiated. A hybrid arrangement between office and home work is available.
