Job description
Role overview
Join Aon New Zealand in a position that helps strengthen the organisation’s compliance and risk culture. This opportunity is designed for someone who wants to have a direct impact on how the business manages regulatory obligations, assurance, and control effectiveness. As Compliance & Audit Manager, you will work independently while partnering with internal stakeholders to improve standards and support the ongoing maturity of the risk and compliance function.
The opportunity
This is a second-line oversight position within the Legal & Compliance team. The role is centred on assurance, monitoring, and ongoing improvement rather than day-to-day operational ownership. You will have wide interaction across the organisation, including regular contact with senior leaders and governance groups.
Key responsibilities
- Evaluate whether internal controls are functioning effectively across the business.
- Spot compliance risks and control weaknesses early, before they escalate into larger issues.
- Translate findings into clear, actionable guidance for leaders and teams.
- Contribute to the development and refinement of compliance frameworks and practices.
- Run line 2 compliance audits and monitoring activities across regulated business areas.
- Review business processes, test controls, and question whether they are working as intended.
- Share audit outcomes, insights, and recommendations with leadership and governance forums.
- Support projects, product changes, and operational initiatives with practical compliance input.
- Build strong working relationships with colleagues across the business and with regulators.
- Serve as the privacy and data protection officer, extending the scope of the role.
What makes the role appealing
- The opportunity to help shape and uplift Aon NZ’s compliance framework as the function continues to mature.
- Considerable autonomy and trust, supported by a knowledgeable team.
- A broad remit spanning audit, compliance, risk, and privacy.
- Exposure to senior leadership and governance settings.
- Flexible working arrangements, including a hybrid setup.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience in compliance, audit, or risk roles within financial services.
- Strong familiarity with the New Zealand regulatory environment, ideally in financial advice.
- The ability to notice patterns, systemic issues, and emerging risks with strong attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report preparation and presentations to senior stakeholders.
- Confidence to question, influence, and challenge constructively at all levels of the organisation.
- Experience from insurance or insurance broking, broader financial services, or a Big 4/consulting background with audit, risk, or compliance exposure.
