Introduction
Join Spectrum Care as a Community Support Worker and contribute to a vibrant residential service dedicated to adults with intellectual and/or physical disabilities in Central Auckland. This full-time position involves 40 hours per week with a pay range of $23.97 to $29.68 per hour. Spectrum Care is committed to providing safe, nurturing homes where residents can flourish.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive personal care including hygiene assistance, dressing, medication management, and daily routines.
- Support daily living activities such as meal preparation (including beef and pork), housekeeping, budgeting, and household management.
- Facilitate community involvement by encouraging participation in clubs, events, social outings, and faith-based activities.
- Promote social interaction by fostering friendships, enhancing communication skills, and building confidence.
- Assist with work readiness, volunteering activities, and educational opportunities to support client growth.
- Provide emotional support and maintain a calm presence during challenging situations.
- Maintain accurate records and communicate effectively with families and team members.
Candidate Profile and Skills
- Compassionate understanding of the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities striving for independence.
- Energetic and adaptable to dynamic, busy environments.
- Ability to stay composed and provide reassurance under pressure.
- Resilient in helping clients maintain safe boundaries.
- Strong communication skills, able to explain and negotiate sensitively.
- Proficient in English with clear verbal and written communication.
- Capability and willingness to support personal care and daily living tasks.
Preferred Qualifications and Requirements
- Interest in pursuing or progressing towards Community Support Worker Level Three qualification; on-the-job support available.
- Previous experience supporting people with disabilities, mental health challenges, or complex behaviors is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Demonstrates reliability, dedication, and a passion for client-centered care.
- Creative problem-solving skills to foster client independence and achieve personal goals.
- Holds a valid New Zealand Driver's License and can successfully pass a police clearance check.
- Computer literacy including Microsoft Teams, Word, and Outlook.
- Completion of a two-week paid induction training program is required.
- For non-residents: must meet Immigration New Zealand Level 3 skill criteria — minimum 3 years paid care workforce experience or a relevant qualification at NZQCF Level 4 or higher.
