About the Role

Spectrum Care invites applications for a casual Community Support Worker position based in Whangarei, Northland, New Zealand. This role is focused on assisting adults with intellectual and/or physical disabilities to enhance their quality of life by providing person-centered support that aligns with their individual goals, preferences, and needs. The position involves supporting three young men in their early 20s living together, encouraging their active lifestyles and participation in activities such as swimming, gardening, music, nature walks, drives, and kapa haka. The home environment fosters connection, learning, fun, and celebrates individuality while building meaningful relationships.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Deliver tailored support in daily living, community engagement, social involvement, education, employment, and independence development.
  • Assist with personal care and motivate individuals in daily living skills.
  • Facilitate participation in community activities and hobbies.
  • Provide a calming and safe environment while helping maintain boundaries for safety.
  • Communicate supportively and effectively with individuals, families, and team members.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Empathy and understanding of the challenges faced by people living with disabilities.
  • Ability to sustain energy levels to support active individuals.
  • Strong calmness and resilience in diverse situations.
  • Effective communication skills including negotiation and explanation abilities.
  • Strong verbal and written English skills are essential.
  • Interest in pursuing Community Support Worker Level Three or higher qualification; support for achievement is available.
  • Experience with disability, mental health, or challenging behaviour support is preferred but not compulsory.
  • Possession of a full New Zealand driver’s licence and capability to clear a New Zealand police check.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Word, Internet Explorer, and email usage.
  • For non-resident applicants: Must meet Immigration New Zealand Level 3 skill requirements by fulfilling either three years of paid care workforce experience at or above the care worker wage rate or hold a relevant NZQCF qualification at level 4 or diploma level accordingly.

Additional Information

The hourly wage for this role ranges from $23.97 to $29.68. Hours will vary, covering various shifts including day, afternoon, evening, overnight, weekends, and Saturdays. This is a casual role involving engagement in a vibrant and dynamic environment where you have the chance to impact lives directly every day.
