Position Overview and Location
This role is based at NMS Brittany House, Exeter, England (postcode EX4 4EP). It offers a unique opportunity to positively affect the lives of People on Probation and directly improve community spaces.
Key Responsibilities
As a Community Payback Supervisor, you will manage and oversee groups undertaking unpaid work to contribute back to the community. Your duties include supervising teams performing varied manual tasks such as clearing overgrowth, restoring public facilities, planting, litter picking, and graffiti removal. You will be responsible for all tasks at work sites and provide leadership by demonstrating good practices where necessary. Additionally, driving service vehicles for transportation of people or equipment is required.
Working Hours and Schedule
The post involves a 37-hour workweek compressed into four days of 9.25 hours each. Weekend work is a stipulated part of this role, with frequent weekend shifts and occasional evening cover. For weekend days worked, an increased pay rate of 50% applies. The demanding pace means that rest breaks may not always be standard; however, employee wellbeing is carefully supported.
Mandatory Requirements
- Applicants must possess a full UK Manual Driving Licence; candidates with only an automatic licence are ineligible.
- Right to work in the UK and meet the Civil Service nationality and immigration regulations.
Salary and Progression
The starting annual salary for successful candidates is £28,064. The role offers the possibility of annual pay raises via a Competency Based Framework, rewarding growing competence. Pay bands are also regularly adjusted in line with Civil Service guidance.

Recruitment Process
Applicants must attend an in-person introductory session on August 17, 2026, from 9:30am to 12:30pm, followed by online interviews from 2:00pm the same day. The selection will involve assessment against several Civil Service behaviours, including Communication, Leadership, Teamwork, and Quality Service Management.
