Key Responsibilities

As a Community Payback Supervisor, you will manage and oversee groups undertaking unpaid work to contribute back to the community. Your duties include supervising teams performing varied manual tasks such as clearing overgrowth, restoring public facilities, planting, litter picking, and graffiti removal. You will be responsible for all tasks at work sites and provide leadership by demonstrating good practices where necessary. Additionally, driving service vehicles for transportation of people or equipment is required.

Working Hours and Schedule

The post involves a 37-hour workweek compressed into four days of 9.25 hours each. Weekend work is a stipulated part of this role, with frequent weekend shifts and occasional evening cover. For weekend days worked, an increased pay rate of 50% applies. The demanding pace means that rest breaks may not always be standard; however, employee wellbeing is carefully supported.

Mandatory Requirements

  • Applicants must possess a full UK Manual Driving Licence; candidates with only an automatic licence are ineligible.
  • Right to work in the UK and meet the Civil Service nationality and immigration regulations.

Support and Benefits

  • Access to professional learning and development opportunities.
  • Flexible working arrangements promoting work-life balance.
  • Inclusive and diverse workplace culture.
  • Generous Civil Service pension with employer contribution around 28.97%.
  • Annual leave entitlement plus public holidays.
  • Opportunity for season ticket advance.

Recruitment Process

Applicants must attend an in-person introductory session on August 17, 2026, from 9:30am to 12:30pm, followed by online interviews from 2:00pm the same day. The selection will involve assessment against several Civil Service behaviours, including Communication, Leadership, Teamwork, and Quality Service Management.

Additional Information

This role is designed for individuals empathetic and capable of leading diverse groups. It demands enthusiasm for complex, active days where no two schedules are identical. Candidates should be prepared for the challenges and rewards of making a meaningful community difference.

Note the changes in Skilled Worker visa eligibility effective July 22, 2025; the role does not sponsor new Skilled Worker visas unless held before that date. Compliance with UK immigration laws is mandatory.
