Job description

Role overview

NELFT NHS Foundation Trust is looking for a dedicated and empathetic mental health nurse to join the Mental Health & Wellness Team (West). The post is based in a community setting and focuses on delivering person-centred support to people with a broad range of mental health and wellbeing needs.

This position is suited to someone who can provide timely, practical, recovery-oriented interventions as part of a multidisciplinary team. You will work alongside service users, carers, and partner organisations to support recovery, build resilience, and encourage greater independence while helping reduce avoidable use of secondary services.

The trust is seeking someone with strong communication skills, sound clinical judgement, and a genuine commitment to safe, effective, compassionate care. The role also suits a proactive and adaptable professional who is keen to improve access to community mental health support and contribute to service development.

Main responsibilities

You will manage a caseload of service users with complex and challenging needs, working closely with the wider MDT to coordinate care and deliver both physical and mental health interventions through the wellness clinic.

The role requires confidence in managing risk, safeguarding vulnerable adults, and working flexibly to meet service demands. Strong IT capability and familiarity with electronic record systems are essential.

You will also be expected to supervise junior staff, support and mentor MDT students, and take part in ongoing education and research activity.

Additional information

Full job and person specification details are available in the attached documents and should be reviewed before applying.

New starters are carefully inducted at NELFT and usually begin on the first Monday of the month. Induction lasts for up to two weeks and includes mandatory training, systems training, equipment allocation, and opportunities to meet senior leaders through drop-in sessions covering engagement, wellbeing, and key processes.

This appointment is subject to a probationary period.

The role attracts the Outer London High Cost Area Supplement, paid at 15% of basic salary, with a minimum annual payment of £4,870 and a maximum of £6,137, pro rata where applicable.

Applicants should also review the trust guidance on the acceptable use of AI during recruitment.
