Job description

Role overview

An opportunity is available for a driven and enthusiastic professional to join the Children’s Services team as an Asthma and Allergy Friendly Schools Co-ordinator. The role supports the roll-out of an initiative designed to help schools improve awareness, education, and long-term management of asthma and allergies.

In this position, you will work with schools, healthcare professionals, children and young people, and their families to strengthen support for students living with asthma and allergies. A key part of the job is helping participating schools achieve Asthma and Allergy Friendly School status and contributing to better health outcomes across the borough.

The Trust is committed to providing care with kindness, respect, and partnership with local communities, and is looking for someone who reflects those values.

Main purpose of the job

You will help ensure the programme is delivered effectively across the local area, supporting schools through accreditation and helping put the right systems, learning, and resources in place to create safer school environments.

Key accountabilities

  • Guide schools through the process of achieving Asthma and Allergy Friendly School accreditation.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with schools, school nursing teams, and wider health professionals.
  • Serve as the primary contact for schools involved in the programme.
  • Offer practical advice to school staff on managing asthma and allergies in children and young people.
  • Share relevant resources, training options, and evidence-based guidance.
  • Support children, young people, and families with the management of long-term health conditions in school settings.
  • Gather and review project information, surveys, and outcome data.
  • Prepare reports and keep clear records for project monitoring and evaluation.
  • Attend meetings with internal and external stakeholders to support delivery.
  • Contribute ideas for service improvement and help identify ways to strengthen the programme.

Working style and expectations

This is a collaborative position that requires strong organisation, confident communication, and the ability to manage competing priorities independently while meeting deadlines. The role includes regular travel to schools and community locations across the borough, so flexibility and a proactive approach are essential.

The successful candidate will work both on their own initiative and as part of a wider team, supporting health improvement work that directly benefits children, families, and local communities.

Induction and onboarding

New starters are welcomed into the Trust on the first Monday of each month and complete a full induction lasting up to two weeks. This includes mandatory training, systems training, equipment allocation, opportunities to meet the executive team and senior managers, and drop-in sessions focused on engagement, health and wellbeing, and key processes. The induction takes place at the head office in Goodmayes Hospital.

Probation

This position is subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt unless they are already partway through a probationary period or currently employed as bank staff.

High cost area supplement

The role attracts an Outer London High Cost Area Supplement for B&D, Redbridge, Havering, Waltham Forest, and Goodmayes. This is paid at 15% of basic salary, with a pro rata minimum of £4,870 and a pro rata maximum of £6,137 per year for part-time hours.

Working for the Trust

Joining the team means becoming part of a supportive and welcoming environment. The organisation is CQC rated Good and is working towards an Outstanding rating. It operates across North East London and Essex, delivering community and mental healthcare services for adults and children.

The Trust also offers award-winning equality and diversity initiatives, staff health and wellbeing activities, and significant investment in employee development. It is recognised as a Level 3 Disability Confident Leader, has been included in the Working Families Top 10 Employers benchmark for five consecutive years, and holds Carers UK Level 1 Accreditation. Staff networks and training opportunities help foster a fair and compassionate workplace culture.
