About The Bowery Mission

The Bowery Mission is a faith-based Christian organization dedicated since the 1870s to assisting individuals facing homelessness, hunger, and poverty. We provide essential support and foster transformative communities for men, women, children, and families in New York City, aiming to help overcome these challenges and enable thriving lives.

Role Overview

As part of the Choose Help team, the Community Life Associate is responsible for maintaining a secure, supportive, and trauma-informed environment overnight in the Men's Dormitory. This role involves direct engagement with residents to promote independence, facilitate healthy communication, and ensure safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Welcome and orient guests and residents while demonstrating and encouraging independent living skills.
  • Promote open, healthy communication and oversee residents’ daily program schedules.
  • Ensure adherence to the organization’s health and safety guidelines.
  • Conduct hourly rounds and perform scheduled fire drills as needed to maintain safety standards.
  • Prepare and submit necessary reports promptly and collaborate with other departments to support overall program functions.

Schedule

Work shifts are Thursday through Monday, from 11:30 PM to 8:00 AM, with Tuesdays and Wednesdays off.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Alignment with the organization’s Statement of Faith.
  • Minimum of 2 to 3 years of relevant experience showcasing strong interpersonal skills.
  • High school diploma, GED, or higher educational attainment.
  • Excellent conflict resolution capabilities.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
  • Highly relational with strong interpersonal abilities.
  • Computer literacy including email usage.

Preferred Certifications and Training

  • Mental Health First Aid certification.
  • Non-violent Crisis Intervention certification.
  • Training in Motivational Interviewing techniques.
  • Experience and knowledge in Trauma-informed Care.
  • First Aid/CPR and F-80 Fire Safety certifications.
  • Associate degree in a related field preferred.
  • Naloxone administration training.

Compensation

The position offers a wage of $21.63 per hour.
