About The Bowery Mission

The organization focuses on meeting essential needs and fostering transformative communities among men, women, children, and families to help overcome adversity and promote flourishing.

Role Summary

The Outreach Specialist plays a vital role on the Choose Help team by enhancing outreach initiatives and broadening referral sources into The Bowery Mission's adult Residential Program. The goal is to increase referrals, sustain full occupancy, and strengthen partnerships that aid program entry and resource access. Collaborating closely with various internal teams, the role ensures high-quality intake experiences, tracks client engagement, and analyzes recruitment outcomes to refine processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Associate Director of Choose Help to expand outreach efforts and create a more diverse referral pipeline for adult programs.
  • Promote greater visibility and utilization of services across The Bowery Mission's care continuum.
  • Organize and lead routine outreach and recruitment events each week.
  • Deliver ongoing presentations about the residential program to guests at Bowery and Tribeca campuses (in-reach activities).
  • Collaborate with Sustain & Grow team members to schedule regular alumni presentations as part of in-reach efforts.
  • Grow the number of referring partnerships and reinforce existing relationships.
  • Assist colleagues in linking with external resources that support The Bowery Mission’s programs.
  • Work closely with Choose Help and Make Progress teams to assess and improve recruiting strategies, discuss retention challenges, and optimize the intake process.
  • Maintain strict compliance with internal and external recordkeeping standards.
  • Prepare reports summarizing outreach activities and outcomes.

Work Schedule

Typical hours are 9:00 am to 5:30 pm most days, with one day per week from 11:00 am to 7:30 pm.

Qualifications

  • Commitment to The Bowery Mission’s Statement of Faith.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 4 years working in ministry, nonprofit, recruiting, or a related area.
  • Ability to integrate best practices serving the target population while embodying a Christian worldview.
  • Proficiency in office technologies.

Preferred Certifications & Skills

  • Motivational Interviewing techniques.
  • Mental Health First Aid certification.
  • Training in Non-violent Crisis Intervention.
  • Experience with Trauma-informed Care.
  • First Aid/CPR certified.
  • F-80 Fire Safety Certification.
  • Naloxone Administration capability.

Compensation

The annual salary range is between $55,000 and $60,000, based on relevant experience and education.
