About Apex Action for Social Transformation (AAST)

Based in Kakuma, Turkana County, Kenya, Apex Action for Social Transformation (AAST) is a community-focused organization dedicated to empowering youth and enhancing community development through educational advocacy, mentorship, and empowerment programs. The organization collaborates with both local and international partners to design and implement impactful initiatives that support sustainable development and create practical opportunities for young people. AAST advocates inclusive community participation and strengthens local capacity to address prevailing social and economic issues.

Role Overview

The Community Engagement Officer is a full-time, on-site position located in Turkana County, Kenya. This role involves orchestrating and delivering various community outreach efforts, actively engaging with youth and community members within AAST's programs, and forging strong connections with local stakeholders. Core responsibilities encompass organizing community meetings, workshops, and events; collecting participant insights; and assisting in program monitoring and reporting.

Daily duties include coordination with partners, documenting community needs and success stories, supporting the execution of projects, and collaborating closely with the AAST team to refine engagement strategies. The officer will also advocate for AAST's initiatives through effective communication and represent the organization at community forums.

Qualifications and Skills Required

  • Proven expertise in community and stakeholder engagement.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong project management capabilities including planning, coordination, and follow-up.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse youth and community groups, especially in rural and humanitarian contexts.
  • Experience working with NGOs, grassroots efforts, or community-based organizations is advantageous.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English; familiarity with Turkana County local languages is a plus.
  • Competent in gathering, organizing, and sharing field data and community feedback.
  • Preferably holds a diploma or degree in Social Work, Community Development, Education, or a related discipline.
