Job description
Role Overview
Ventia is hiring an experienced Communications Technician with inside plant expertise to help maintain essential infrastructure across the power network. The position is centred on low-voltage electrical systems and communications hardware operating in controlled environments.
What You’ll Do
- Set up, commission, inspect, and maintain low-voltage DC power systems, including battery testing and upkeep.
- Install and bring into service transmission technologies such as OTN, MPLS, SDH, and PDH.
- Carry out testing and commissioning of inside plant communications equipment.
- Investigate faults and resolve issues in communications and DC power systems.
- Install, splice, and terminate copper and fibre optic cabling.
- Read, interpret, and revise technical drawings, diagrams, and schematics as required.
- Work at heights is considered an advantage for this role.
- Electrical registration would also be an advantage.
About You
The ideal candidate is safety-minded, technically strong, and experienced in environments such as critical infrastructure, power, or telecommunications.
What You’ll Bring
- Practical experience installing and commissioning low-voltage power plant.
- Working knowledge of battery systems and testing methods.
- Exposure to protection systems is preferred.
- Hands-on ability in fibre splicing and fibre installation tasks.
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
- Good physical fitness, including the ability to do ladder work.
- A team-oriented mindset and a strong commitment to safety.
