Job description
Overview
Stowe Australia, a leading Electrical & Communications Contractor in Australia, is seeking seasoned Communications & Fibre Technicians to join a project based in Adelaide. Employment will be managed via our Melbourne office and be governed by the Victorian Enterprise Bargaining Agreement (EBA). Candidates who can join promptly will be preferred.
Key Duties
- Perform fibre optic tasks including splicing, jointing, termination, testing, and fault analysis.
- Prepare cables by stripping jackets, cleaning fibres, and arranging strength members for termination.
- Terminate both single mode and multimode fibres using epoxy or resin-based polishing techniques.
- Assemble connectors, carry out polishing, and complete fibre end-face finishing.
- Pot connector ferrules and ready terminations for curing, polishing, and inspection phases.
- Conduct insertion loss testing with optical light sources and power meters; perform continuity and fault detection using visual fault locators.
- Execute Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) testing following project specifications.
- Diagnose and fix faults in fibre optic networks to resolve performance issues.
- Handle fibre prep, label, and tidy cables to uphold high craftsmanship and quality.
- Ensure adherence to safety standards and quality assurance on site.
- Effectively operate across commercial, industrial, infrastructure, and remote site environments.
- Maintain professional communication with supervisors, project teams, and clients; accurately complete documentation, test records, and project handover paperwork.
Preferred Qualifications and Expertise
- Demonstrated skills in fibre optic splicing, jointing, connector assembly, termination, polishing, and fibre end-face finishing.
- Experience in fibre testing, fault finding, and cable preparation.
- Background in construction, communications, or infrastructure projects.
- Strong dedication to safety and quality assurance.
- Valid White Card (Construction Induction) and current driver’s license.
- ACMA Open Cabling Registration or related telecommunications credentials are considered advantages.
- Readiness for immediate or short notice commencement.
Highly Advantageous Additional Qualifications
- Certificate III in Telecommunications or equivalent qualifications.
- Certificate III Electrical or A Grade Electrical Licence.
- Experience on large-scale communications, defence, utilities, or infrastructure projects.
- First Aid certifications.
- Relevant site tickets such as Elevated Work Platform (EWP) or Working at Heights.
- Security clearance such as Defence NV1 Clearance.
