About Trees for the Future
Trees for the Future (TREES) is a pioneering organization focused on enabling farmers to transform lives by rejuvenating lands through agroforestry training under its Forest Garden Approach. Operating for over 30 years across Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, TREES has planted more than 400 million trees to foster sustainable food systems, vibrant economies, and healthier ecosystems. The Uganda program specifically works in the Lake Victoria Watershed, collaborating with over 7,000 farmers and employing more than 75 staff members to implement these transformative initiatives.
Role Overview
The Communications Coordinator leads the execution of the TREES Uganda Program Communications Strategy, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, donor requirements, and brand guidelines. Collaborating closely with program teams and the central marketing teams, this role advances both external and internal communications to amplify TREES’ visibility and engagement in Uganda.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and coordinate messaging and IEC materials tailored to diverse audiences that effectively convey program initiatives and impacts.
- Drive advocacy, visibility campaigns, and public events that align with Uganda’s strategic objectives and donor mandates.
- Collaborate with the Regional Marketing and Communications Manager to contribute to global communications efforts.
- Maintain adherence to TREES branding standards, donor compliance, and ethical communication principles across all materials.
- Manage media relations, organize press activities, and cultivate relationships with media and communication stakeholders at multiple administrative levels.
- Regularly visit project sites to document activities via photography, videography, and storytelling for communication and knowledge management purposes.
- Support donor engagement and learning events by curating compelling program narratives and visual content.
- Mentor program teams on communications planning, branding, and documentation procedures.
- Ensure communication outputs are gender-sensitive, safeguarding compliant, and ethically sound with proper informed consent procedures.
- Coordinate the creation and dissemination of newsletters, reports, success stories, and case studies, maintaining organized archives of multimedia materials.
- Promote organizational learning by synthesizing project insights into accessible knowledge products and encouraging information sharing.

Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Media Studies, Development Communication, or related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years professional experience in communications, public relations, or knowledge management within NGO or development sectors.
- Proven skills in content development, storytelling, photography, videography, and digital communication tools.
- Strong knowledge of branding practices, donor visibility compliance, and strategic communication planning.
- Experience managing digital communication platforms and tools.
