Role Overview
We are seeking a Commercial Mortgage Underwriter to join our innovative commercial team in Toronto. In this pivotal position, you will oversee the underwriting of both CMHC-insured and conventional commercial mortgages ranging from $2.5 million up to $150 million. Applying established policies alongside creative judgment, you will ensure compliance, enable efficient loan processing, and contribute to ambitious service and financial targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Underwrite and analyze commercial credit facilities with precision and creativity, ensuring adherence to lending guidelines while processing loans efficiently.
- Maintain open and effective communication daily with both external partners and internal teams to facilitate smooth processes and exceptional customer service.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously by prioritizing tasks to adhere to strict deadlines and sustain an organized workflow.
- Execute various administrative and reporting functions that provide valuable insights supporting senior management’s strategic decisions.
Candidate Profile
- Bilingual abilities are advantageous but not mandatory.
- Demonstrated 4 to 5 years of experience in commercial mortgage underwriting.
- Strong commitment to delivering high-quality service in mortgage underwriting.
- Post-secondary education preferred, ideally a diploma or degree in business or finance.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, especially Word and Excel.
- Excellent analytical thinking and problem-solving aptitude.
- In-depth understanding of secured lending and the commercial mortgage sector.
- Highly organized with superior ability to manage competing priorities.
- Effective time management skills with a focus on meeting deadlines.
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
- Active interest in staying informed about industry developments and attending relevant events.
