Overview
The Associate Manager, Strategy and Operations plays a pivotal role supporting the Manager in directing various projects, including identifying new opportunities, strategic planning, internal consulting, transformation initiatives, product structure research such as Loan-to-Value (LTV) and pricing, data analysis, and aiding strategic efforts. Working closely with cross-functional teams, this role contributes to shaping the company's strategic direction and assists senior executives and the Board in decision-making. The role requires strong analytical skills to provide both qualitative and quantitative insights that underpin recommendations for senior leadership. The Associate Manager also takes ownership of projects, coordinating with senior stakeholders to ensure successful outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in formulating the reverse mortgages business strategy by performing quantitative analyses to forecast outcomes, extract insights, and deliver actionable recommendations.
- Advance projects by managing internal stakeholders, creating deliverables, and independently presenting key findings.
- Support the implementation of selected strategic initiatives.
- Leverage quantitative tools, such as Excel modeling, to generate insights that inform decision-making processes.
- Conduct comprehensive research for critical go/no-go decisions regarding new products and initiatives, including financial modeling.
- Establish expertise on new business opportunities and contribute to business case development.
- Analyze financial, operational, and risk impacts associated with new product launches and projects.
- Act as a liaison among PMO, business units, and IT departments, often working independently.
- Engage in brainstorming, structuring, and problem-solving for a spectrum of strategic and tactical topics, maintaining ownership of related models including growth, LTV, pricing, and operational efficiency.
- Create repeatable processes and methodologies for more efficient analysis turnaround.
- Develop and deliver presentations to communicate analytical outcomes.
- Lead and mentor team members in analysis and problem-solving tasks when applicable.
- Perform market research to back enterprise and business unit strategies, covering competitive analysis, product evaluation, and market sizing.
- Monitor various sources such as news, journals, and industry reports to track industry, competitive, and regulatory trends.
- Remain updated on events impacting EQ Bank, sharing relevant findings and conducting further research and projections as necessary.
- Track housing market developments and regulatory initiatives, supporting the Bank's stance on regulatory matters and responding to regulator inquiries.
- Prepare materials and presentations for senior management and Board meetings, highlighting key insights and strategic recommendations.
- Oversee the development and maintenance of a research database on competitors and industry trends in Canada.
- Maintain and update ongoing models and analyses related to LTV, pricing, and other key metrics.
Qualifications and Skills
- 2-3+ years of management consulting experience focused on strategic transformation, product management, and corporate strategy.
- Previous exposure to financial services or mortgage industry is advantageous.
- Strong leadership abilities with the aptitude to coach and develop others.
- Exceptional organizational capabilities with keen attention to detail.
- Proven capacity to multitask effectively while maintaining thoroughness.
- Independent decision-making skills, even under pressure.
- Advanced verbal and written communication, capable of delivering clear, concise, and professional responses.
- Excellent time management and problem-solving prowess.
- Dedicated to outstanding customer service.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, especially Word and Excel.
- Solid understanding of mortgage lending practices.
- Post-secondary degree, preferably with a financial focus.
- Ability to excel in dynamic, high-volume, and fast-paced environments.
- Knowledge of Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Anti-Terrorist Financing (ATF) practices.
- In-depth understanding of fraud risks affecting the mortgage sector.
- Fluency in French is considered a valuable asset.
