Role Overview

The Senior Analyst in Capital Markets and Financial Operations will be an essential part of the Accounting and Finance team, reporting directly to the Senior Manager of Hedge Accounting & Financial Operations. This role demands providing operational support across financial instruments, confirmations, settlements, hedge accounting, and valuations. Collaboration with Treasury, Capital Markets, and Securitization teams is critical to managing middle and back-office functions for security trades, settlement processes, reporting, and valuations. Additional involvement includes support for banking operations, procurement, and accounts payable within Financial Operations.

Primary Duties

  • Oversee settlement processes for security transactions, including swaps payments and receipts.
  • Collaborate with traders, custodians, and counterparties to resolve settlement discrepancies.
  • Manage trade uploads to the CDS custodian portal and reconcile trade confirmations ensuring accurate entry into Treasury reporting systems.
  • Maintain and verify daily trade blotters, highlighting unmatched transactions to improve transparency and observability.
  • Verify payment settlements for accuracy and rule compliance, investigating discrepancies and coordinating timely solutions.
  • Track wire payments for FX forwards and interest rate swaps adhering to agreements and market standards.
  • Validate derivative data inputs against contract terms ensuring accuracy.
  • Regularly audit and resolve data discrepancies, and prepare detailed reports on trades, settlements, and validations.
  • Implement governance-aligned controls over securities, derivative valuations, and hedge accounting transactions.
  • Document new operational workflows and spearhead process enhancement initiatives.
  • Handle emerging projects and ad-hoc assignments as required.

Candidate Profile

  • Post-secondary degree in Accounting, Commerce, Business, or related field.
  • 2 to 3 years of middle office financial operations experience at a financial institution.
  • Effective communication skills capable of conveying technical and analytical concepts appropriately to various audiences.
  • Basic knowledge of financial instruments, particularly FX forwards and interest rate swaps.
  • Familiarity with banking systems and payment processing frameworks.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly advanced Excel capabilities including macros and VBA programming skills considered a plus.
  • Understanding of relevant financial transaction regulations.
  • Strong experience handling data, formulas, and complex spreadsheets.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio and securitization processes is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated analytical thinking, problem-solving aptitude, strong attention to detail, and solid organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in both team-based and independent work settings.

Work Environment and Conditions

The role is based in a standard office setting in Toronto with a hybrid work model currently requiring two days in the office weekly, subject to change. Deadlines are stringent, requiring excellent time management to resolve settlement matters promptly. Periods of heavy workload, such as quarter-end, may necessitate overtime hours.
