Job description

Role Overview

This position is for a college admissions consultant who will support Chinese students pursuing undergraduate admission to universities in the United States. The work involves one-on-one advising, planning application strategies, and helping students build strong academic and extracurricular profiles.

Key Responsibilities

  • Hold initial interviews with prospective students and prepare detailed evaluation reports that outline a recommended advising strategy.
  • Deliver end-to-end consulting support focused on the U.S. college admissions journey for Chinese students.
  • Review each student’s strengths and gaps, then suggest practical steps to improve their application profile and align it with their college goals.
  • Assist students in designing extracurricular plans that support their target admissions outcomes.
  • Advise on academic enrichment outside the regular school curriculum, including research opportunities, potential majors, college selection approaches, and building a balanced college list.
  • Guide students through the full application process, including brainstorming essay ideas and giving feedback on written drafts.
  • Meet with G8 to G11 students online either once a month or once every two months, and meet with G12 students online once a month.
  • Work closely with Chinese consultants on scheduling, tracking academic progress, and maintaining communication with students and parents.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate has at least 3 years of full-time experience as an undergraduate admissions counselor and can demonstrate success in placing students into leading U.S. universities and colleges. Strong knowledge of the U.S. higher education landscape and the undergraduate admissions process is essential. Familiarity with Chinese public schools and/or the IBDP system is preferred. The role also requires excellent English writing and editing ability, the capacity to work independently in high-pressure situations, strong speaking and active listening skills, and a patient, effective communication style with both students and parents.

Compensation

Compensation is competitive and tied to experience. Additional bonuses are available when counseling leads to admissions at Ivy League institutions or other top universities.

Contract Terms

The initial engagement runs for 24 months and may be extended or revised when that period ends.
