Role Summary
The Clinical Assistant operates under the close supervision of certified clinicians to support patient care services and various operational duties. The role includes assisting orthotic and prosthetic practitioners, preparing treatment environments, fabricating devices, performing administrative tasks, and maintaining precise documentation. Clinical Assistants also perform modifications, adjustments, and repairs on soft good items, provide patient follow-up care under supervision, manage inventory and vendor communications, and ensure adherence to patient care protocols.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Independently deliver Off-The-Shelf (OTS) orthotic devices.
- Support certified practitioners with patient care and treatment preparation.
- Create and adjust molds, complete technical fabrication, and handle administrative paperwork.
- Maintain accurate patient care records and documentation.
- Conduct modifications, adjustments, and repairs as directed by supervising clinicians.
- Fit and alter soft good items for patients as required.
- Carry out patient follow-up for selected orthotic and prosthetic cases under direction.
- Manage shipping, receiving, inventory monitoring, and clerical responsibilities.
- Coordinate orders for prosthetic and orthotic materials by contacting vendors.
- Ensure compliance with all patient care activities performed align with supervising clinicians' instructions and regulatory requirements.
- Uphold a clean, safe, and organized work environment consistent with safety and regulatory standards, including OSHA and Medicare compliance.
Supervision Level
This role functions under direct supervision, meaning a credentialed clinician must be available for real-time consultation—either physically on-site or via live audiovisual communication—while patient care services are delivered. Supervisors conduct real-time visual assessments, review documentation within 15 days, and are responsible for ensuring ethical, safe, and effective patient care within their certified disciplines.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED is mandatory.
- Experience between zero to one year in customer service or roles involving patient interaction.
- Preference given to individuals with allied health backgrounds such as PTA, OTA, or Athletic Trainers.
- Possession or eligibility for a valid driver's license and a driving record that complies with Hanger’s Motor Vehicle Safety Policy.
