Position Summary

The Chief Operating Officer at Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing leads the operational functions of this global mission-driven organization, facilitating the alignment of strategy with impactful growth and operational excellence. This role emphasizes developing scalable systems, performance accountability, and financial stewardship across multiple departments in collaboration with executive leaders and the Board.

Core Responsibilities

  • Direct operational planning and design frameworks enhancing efficiency and coordination across areas such as Marketplace, Membership, IT, Events, Finance, and Publications.
  • Establish, monitor, and assess KPIs organization-wide, using insights for strategic resource planning and growth capacity.
  • Partner with executive and departmental leaders to drive revenue growth and operational performance through strategy development in e-commerce, publishing, and events.
  • Lead and coach senior leaders overseeing Marketplace, IT, People & Culture, Finance, and Strategic Initiatives to develop a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement, with emphasis on succession planning.
  • Manage financial oversight including budgeting, forecasting, compliance with legal and governance standards, risk mitigation, and contingency planning alongside the Controller and executive team.
  • Supervise digital infrastructure and technology initiatives, promoting cybersecurity, enterprise systems enhancement, innovation, and data-driven decision making across the organization.

Work Environment & Travel

This role supports a hybrid and fully remote work setup across the United States, with domestic and international travel required approximately 5 to 6 times annually for organizational events.

Compensation

The salary ranges from $145,000 to $175,000 annually, with offers crafted to maintain fairness and financial responsibility.

Weekly Workflow

  • Review organizational KPIs and set weekly priorities.
  • Collaborate closely with the CEO and Executive Team to translate strategy into operational execution.
  • Provide coaching and performance management to senior leaders in operational functions.
  • Partner with finance to manage budgets, compliance, and governance risks.
  • Pursue technological advances and modernization initiatives.
  • Prepare operational reports and updates for the Board of Directors.

Candidate Profile

  • Minimum 10 years in operational leadership, with 5+ years at senior or executive levels, preferably in mission-focused organizations.
  • Experience managing cross-functional operations including IT, HR, Finance, and strategic initiatives with results-driven implementation of KPIs and performance metrics.
  • Strong financial literacy in budgeting, forecasting, and resource management.
  • Proven success in talent development, coaching, and succession planning of leadership teams.
  • Expertise in leading transformational change and technology-enabled operations.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity, data governance, compliance, and risk management frameworks.
  • Ability to synthesize strategic vision and detailed execution effectively.
