Job description

About Flex

Flex is a rapidly growing FinTech company based in New York City, dedicated to transforming how renters pay their rent by offering flexible payment schedules. Our mission is to empower renters by making rent payments more manageable and adaptable to individual financial situations. After careful development and strong investor backing, we are expanding our team to accelerate our growth.

Role Overview

As the Chief of Staff to the General Manager of Housing, you will play a crucial role within our Strategy & Operations team, serving as a key partner and executor for the division's main initiatives. You will work closely with the GM and other functional leaders to translate strategic objectives into actionable plans, independently managing major projects from start to finish with measurable results. This position reports to the Head of Strategy & Operations for Housing and involves regular interaction with executive leadership. The role requires working onsite in our New York office at least three days per week, with relocation support available for candidates outside the NY/NJ area.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the GM of Housing and functional leaders to establish divisional priorities, strategic roadmaps, and operating plans aligned with company-wide goals.
  • Develop and maintain an effective operational framework that fosters strong cross-functional collaboration and execution within the division.
  • Lead end-to-end strategic projects within Housing, overseeing problem definition, strategy formulation, execution, and delivery of impactful results.
  • Produce clear, executive-level monthly progress reports and manage review meetings to facilitate informed decision-making and strategic alignment.
  • Communicate adeptly with senior stakeholders, managing complex issues with clarity and flexibility.
  • Operate efficiently under pressure, managing competing priorities while maintaining high productivity and constructive engagement.
  • Continuously enhance processes, improve team collaboration, and identify opportunities to increase divisional effectiveness.

Candidate Profile

  • Minimum of 8 years professional experience, preferably including management consulting and/or strategy, business operations, or chief of staff roles within fast-growing startups.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with enthusiasm for working in ambiguous, fast-paced environments and building from the ground up.
  • Strong conceptual thinker capable of transforming complex, undefined problems into manageable solutions.
  • Skilled collaborator with excellent interpersonal skills, able to foster alignment and achieve results through influence rather than formal authority.
  • Resilient under pressure, able to handle multiple competing demands in dynamic settings.
  • Action-oriented with meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality deliverables.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities, capable of simplifying complex information into clear, executive-ready narratives and presentations.
  • Proficient in quantitative analysis, financial modeling, budgeting, and forecasting.

Compensation

Salary for this role in Tier 1 markets (New York City/Bay Area) ranges from $216,000 to $270,000 USD per year. Pay is adjusted according to geographic cost of labor indices, and candidates are encouraged to discuss specifics with their recruiter.

Work Environment and Benefits

Our headquarters is located in New York City, operating a hybrid model with 2-3 onsite days expected for relevant offices. We support a diverse and inclusive culture with employees across multiple countries.

Full-time U.S. employees receive comprehensive benefits including competitive medical, dental, and vision coverage; company equity; 401(k) with match; unlimited paid time off plus 13 company holidays; parental leave; and complimentary Flex subscription.
