Job description

About Lantern

Lantern is a specialty-care platform that helps people access the right treatment when they need it most. Through a carefully selected network of leading specialists in surgery, cancer treatment, infusions, and related care, the company helps employers and their teams achieve high-quality outcomes while lowering costs. Members are also supported by dedicated care teams, including care advocates and nurses, throughout the full care journey so they can return to health, family, and work sooner. With nationwide specialist access, most members can find excellent care within driving distance. Lantern supports more than 6 million members across the country and is trusted by major employers.

About You

The ideal candidate makes decisions using clear logic, values progress, and performs well in a fast-moving setting. They bring a strong commitment to inclusion, enjoy working with people from varied backgrounds, and see diversity as a strength. They are driven by ambitious goals, care deeply about customers, and keep humanity at the center of choices. Integrity matters to them, and they are comfortable telling the truth rather than simply saying what others want to hear. They also work well in collaborative teams.

These LIGHT principles reflect Lantern’s mission to guide people through the often complicated healthcare landscape and help them find the care and support they need to get back to life.

Role Summary

Lantern is hiring a Chief of Staff to the CEO to join a rapidly growing organization. Reporting directly to the CEO, this person will act as a high-impact partner who helps extend the CEO’s reach, advances strategic priorities, and keeps pace with the demands of a high-growth business. This is not an executive assistant or program management role. It is intended for someone who can both think deeply and execute with precision, handle complex problems, and push initiatives through to completion.

The company is looking for someone who has already proven themselves in a demanding, high-signal environment such as strategy consulting, investment banking, top-tier technology, or venture capital/growth investing, and who wants a role with broader scope, direct access to the CEO, and meaningful influence in healthcare.

Location

The preferred base is Dallas, TX, though New York, NY and Vancouver, BC are also considered. The role requires regular travel to the Dallas headquarters regardless of home location.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the CEO’s primary partner on high-priority work by performing analysis, synthesizing information, preparing strategy documents, and challenging ideas before they are shared more broadly.
  • Prepare the CEO thoroughly for board sessions, investor meetings, executive reviews, and external discussions, managing the entire preparation process.
  • Serve as an advisor, first-draft contributor, and second set of eyes on strategic, operational, and organizational matters.
  • Guard the CEO’s schedule and focus by sorting inbound requests, removing distractions, and keeping attention on the most important work.
  • Lead urgent, cross-functional initiatives from start to finish, including launching new efforts, sustaining momentum, and ensuring ownership is clear.
  • Independently research and analyze strategic topics such as market positioning, competition, partnerships, and operational priorities.
  • Convert unclear objectives into organized plans with defined outputs, timelines, and accountable owners.
  • Work directly with leaders in product, commercial, finance, and operations to resolve blockers and keep initiatives moving.
  • Create analyses, models, and executive briefings that turn complex information into practical recommendations.
  • Identify risks, compare trade-offs, and build scenario analyses to support important decisions.
  • Track company-level KPIs and strategic milestones, alerting leadership when performance moves off track and helping drive corrective action.
  • Draft board materials, investor communications, internal strategic updates, and external-facing documents for the CEO.
  • Communicate complex ideas clearly and persuasively in both written and spoken settings.
  • Represent the CEO’s priorities and decisions across the organization with accuracy and context.

Requirements

  • 5 to 10 years of professional experience with strong performance in a demanding setting.
  • Experience from one or more of the following: top strategy consulting, investment banking, FAANG or other high-caliber technology companies, or institutional venture/growth equity.
  • Experience working in high-growth environments where priorities change quickly and speed matters.
  • Strong analytical thinking and structured problem-solving ability, with comfort moving between data-heavy work and executive-level storytelling.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to create board-level materials and influence senior stakeholders without formal authority.
  • Strong organization, diligence, and follow-through across multiple simultaneous workstreams.
  • Bachelor’s degree is required; strong academic distinction such as honors, competitive programs, or recognized achievement is preferred. An advanced degree from a leading institution is a plus.
  • Must be based in, or willing to move to, Dallas, TX, New York, NY, or Vancouver, BC, with regular travel to Dallas required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in management consulting, investment banking, product management, business analysis, or technical roles, especially with exposure to AI, machine learning, data science, or quantitative methods.
  • Startup experience in founding, building, or operating an early-stage business.
  • Advanced degree such as an MBA, MS, or equivalent from a highly ranked program.
  • Experience in digital health, technology-enabled healthcare services, or employer benefits.
  • Prior Chief of Staff or senior associate experience with direct interaction with C-suite leaders.

What Strong Candidates Bring

  • Fast learning, strong pattern recognition, comfort with ambiguity, and good judgment about when to go deeper versus move quickly.
  • A coachable mindset and the ability to improve rapidly through feedback.
  • High ambition and a strong bias toward action and ownership.
  • Comfort with shifting priorities, demanding timelines, and changing conditions.
  • Excellent organization and precision, with the ability to manage several workstreams at once without close supervision.
  • Sound judgment and discretion when handling sensitive information and high-stakes situations.

Education

A bachelor’s degree is mandatory. An advanced business degree is preferred, but candidates without one may still be considered if they have strong career results.

  • Medical coverage
  • Dental coverage
  • Vision coverage
  • Short-term and long-term disability insurance
