Job description
About CurbWaste
CurbWaste is working to modernize the waste and recycling sector. Backed by venture funding, the company serves 170+ customers with an all-in-one platform that helps them run and grow their businesses. The product is becoming an operating system of record for a highly important industry, and the company is still in its early growth journey.
Customers report strong satisfaction, including an NPS above 70. The company was also recognized as an SMB Tech Top 50 business and continues to build momentum as a solution for waste haulers across the United States.
Core Values
- Put customers and the industry first.
- Stay endlessly curious.
- Use creativity and resourcefulness to solve problems.
- Succeed together and learn together.
- Always go the extra 1%.
Role Summary
CurbWaste is seeking a Chief of Staff to partner with the founders and leadership team on internal strategy and operational delivery. This is a high-impact, execution-heavy role focused on building the systems, meeting rhythms, and performance measures that help a scaling business move faster. The work includes shaping strategy, launching performance management, establishing departmental KPIs, and integrating AI into day-to-day operations.
The ideal candidate has already operated at scale, works with urgency, and is energized by bringing structure to ambiguity. This person should be committed to helping CurbWaste win and be comfortable turning unclear problems into clear company-wide direction.
What You Will Own
- Company strategy and planning: work with the CEO to translate long-term direction into quarterly priorities, operating plans, and concrete decisions, while managing annual, quarterly, and weekly planning cadences.
- Performance systems: build a full performance management framework from the ground up, including goals, review cycles, calibration, and career architecture so expectations and growth paths are clear as the company expands.
- KPIs and operating metrics: define the key measures for each function, create dashboards and reporting routines, and set up an operating cadence that reveals issues early.
- AI-driven operations: identify high-leverage use cases for AI, implement tools and workflows, and make AI part of the company’s operating fabric rather than a separate initiative.
- Cross-functional execution: lead strategic efforts without a clear owner, drive alignment across teams, and reduce the amount of work that falls directly on the CEO.
- Board and investor readiness: support finance with modeling, metrics, and board reporting, and help prepare the company for future fundraising.
Candidate Profile
You should bring 5-8+ years of experience in a demanding, high-performing environment such as startup operations, Chief of Staff, BizOps, Strategy & Ops, management consulting, or investment banking, with proof that you have built and run systems inside a fast-scaling company. Experience should come from actually operating within a business rather than only advising from outside.
You will be expected to be AI-native, having used AI in real operational contexts and developed a sharp instinct for where it can create meaningful leverage. You should also have hands-on experience launching performance management systems, goal-setting structures, and KPI frameworks, along with strong analytical ability, excellent communication, and the ability to influence teams without direct authority.
The company is looking for someone who acts quickly, stays effective with incomplete information, values progress over perfection, and likes creating systems from scratch rather than simply maintaining existing ones. Familiarity with the modern startup tool stack and exposure to multiple business functions such as finance, people, legal, and sales operations are strong advantages.
Preferred Background
- Experience in a high-growth startup during a major scaling stage, such as Series A through D.
- Exposure to several operational areas, including finance, people, legal, or sales operations.
- Practical experience building internal workflows or tooling powered by AI.
- Background supporting fundraising efforts or board-level reporting.
- Working knowledge of modern startup software such as Ramp, Carta, HubSpot, and current AI tools.
What Will Help You Succeed
- You enjoy solving problems that are messy or not well defined.
- You are comfortable with changing priorities and fast-moving conditions.
- You care more about ownership and impact than title or structure.
- You can move between big-picture thinking and hands-on execution with ease.
- You thrive in high-growth, fast-paced environments.
- You want a path toward VP Operations or COO as the company grows.
Growth Path
This role is intended as a long-term leadership launchpad. As CurbWaste grows, the position can evolve into VP of Operations or COO, with ownership over team building, strategic programs, new-market expansion, M&A integration, and operational diligence.
Benefits
- Base compensation of $190,000 to $200,000 plus meaningful equity.
- Flexible time off and strong support for learning and development.
- Employer-paid medical, dental, and vision coverage.
- 401(k) retirement plan.
- Direct access to the CEO and leadership team.
- Opportunity to shape the company’s foundation and culture.
Equal Opportunity Statement
CurbWaste welcomes applicants from all backgrounds and values a diverse workforce. The company encourages candidates from underrepresented groups to apply and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, gender identity or expression, age, disability, pregnancy, genetic information, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, or any other legally protected characteristic.
