Coast is transforming the U.S. B2B card payments space, focusing on commercial fleets and vehicles, an industry ripe for modernization with digital and financial services innovations. Our flagship product is the Coast Fleet and Fuel Card, designed on an advanced spend management platform.

Role Overview

The Chief of Staff acts as the CEO’s key operational partner, extending the CEO’s influence throughout the company. In this role, you will represent the CEO in various meetings and decisions, ensuring that the CEO’s priorities are communicated and executed effectively. This position demands independent judgment and the capacity to take ownership of critical projects and operational cadence within the leadership team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Represent the CEO in meetings and decision-making processes when the CEO is unavailable, effectively managing escalations and resolutions.
  • Communicate the CEO’s agenda within the executive team and hold leadership accountable for deliverables aligned with the CEO’s directives.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor and provide honest, well-founded counsel to the CEO.
  • Manage the leadership team’s operating rhythm including executive meetings, planning cycles, goal setting, and business reviews to ensure concrete decision-making.
  • Prepare materials and agendas to facilitate aligned and efficient meetings.
  • Track executive decisions and commitments, ensuring follow-up and preventing any oversight.
  • Lead complex, high-priority initiatives lacking clear ownership, overseeing them from inception through completion.
  • Collaborate with the CEO and leadership on company growth strategies and operational improvements.
  • Identify operational bottlenecks and implement solutions in partnership with relevant teams, escalating only when necessary.
  • Conduct research and data analysis to support informed decision-making by the CEO, leadership team, investors, and board members.
  • Prepare clear, data-driven documentation for executive, investor, and board communications.

Candidate Requirements

  • 7 to 12 years' professional experience combining strong analytical skills (management consulting, investment banking, strategy) with operational expertise in fast-growing environments.
  • Proven ability to earn and maintain the trust of CEOs or senior executives and represent them credibly to stakeholders.
  • Exceptional executive presence, capable of engaging and influencing senior-level leaders.
  • Strong judgment, discretion, and ability to manage confidential and sensitive issues.
  • Analytical proficiency with comfort in interpreting metrics and using data to guide operational decisions.
  • Excellent communication skills with the talent to align a broad range of stakeholders, including boards and frontline teams.
  • Proficiency and enthusiasm in leveraging AI tools to enhance productivity.
  • Proactive mindset focused on action and creating operational processes without needing preexisting frameworks.
  • Experience in fintech, payments, B2B SaaS, or financial services preferred.
  • Located in New York City area and available to work onsite 3-4 days weekly.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Annual salary range: $175,000 to $225,000
