Role Overview
The Chief of Staff to the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) and Chief Communications Officer (CCO) plays a critical role in optimizing the executives' effectiveness by ensuring their time aligns with strategic priorities, preparing them for high-profile engagements, and driving initiatives that require direct executive endorsement.
Key Responsibilities
- Align executive calendars with strategic objectives, collaborating closely with Executive Assistant Business Partners to maintain seamless scheduling and logistics.
- Coordinate preparation for major events including board meetings, executive reviews, and external presentations by managing briefing materials and post-event follow-ups.
- Represent the CMO in selected informational discussions, exercising discretion to decide when to escalate issues or act independently.
- Work alongside Communications to shape the executive messaging, thought leadership, and overall company narrative, providing strategic input while Communications manages voice and execution.
- Plan and facilitate major company leadership events such as All Hands meetings, leadership forums, and strategic planning sessions in partnership with key stakeholders.
- Utilize AI tools specifically for enhancing executive communications and narrative development while collaborating on broader AI strategy with the operations team.
- Lead complex, cross-departmental programs that require executive-level sponsorship from definition through measureable outcomes.
- Create and maintain accountability systems, clarify decision-making authorities, and deliver strategic updates to keep executives focused on priority work.
- Manage the onboarding and integration process for new senior leaders partnering with HR, focusing on stakeholder relationships and organizational assimilation.
- Design culture-building events and initiatives for the marketing and communications organization and associated leadership groups.
Candidate Profile
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in strategy, executive communications, program management, management consulting, or Chief of Staff functions with proven senior leadership impact.
- Independent leader capable of managing high-stakes cross-functional initiatives end-to-end.
- Exemplary communication skills, able to authentically write in an executive voice with clarity and precision.
- Experienced in establishing operational rhythms, accountability frameworks, and decision-making structures in complex, matrixed environments.
- Skilled at gaining trust and influencing senior executives and cross-functional teams at all levels, including C-suite.
- Demonstrates discretion handling confidential matters and navigating organizational complexity.
- Proficient use of AI tools to augment executive communications and strategic narrative with strong attention to ethical validation and data confidentiality.
- Strong analytical acumen to distill intricate information into actionable guidance.
- Preferably has held a Chief of Staff or strategic advisory role within a public technology firm and possesses familiarity with marketing or communications domains.
- Holds a bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, or a related field, or has equivalent experience.
Additional Information
- This role is onsite requiring presence 2-3 times per month in office locations including Seattle, San Francisco, or Los Angeles.
- Relocation assistance is not offered for this position.
- The annual salary range spans $178,561 to $367,626 USD with eligibility for equity awards. Final compensation varies based on location, previous experience, and skills.
