Role Overview
The Chief of Staff acts as the strategic partner to the CEO, turning the highest priority goals into actionable plans across the organization. Collaborating closely with the CEO, the role involves preparing for key engagements with investors, governmental entities, national labs, strategic partners, and the Board, ensuring critical decisions and initiatives progress effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic counsel to the CEO, offering research-based insights and sound judgment for impactful decision-making.
- Prepare concise briefing documents and analyses to equip the CEO for important meetings, negotiations, and Board interactions.
- Drive execution and follow-through on executive priorities to ensure commitments and initiatives move forward.
- Support and nurture relationships with investors, federal agencies, national laboratories, and strategic partners by preparing presentation materials and representing the CEO’s office professionally.
- Lead cross-functional projects involving engineering, finance, regulatory, government affairs, facilities, and operations to align teams and advance company goals.
- Improve organizational effectiveness by identifying bottlenecks and refining operational rhythms and decision-making processes.
- Assist in capital formation by coordinating investor follow-ups, maintaining engagement momentum, and developing executive investor communications.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years in a Chief of Staff, strategy, external affairs, or similarly demanding externally-facing role that requires rigorous execution.
- Experience engaging with executives, investors, government bodies, or strategic partners.
- Confident interpersonal skills suitable for senior-level interactions.
- Exceptional executive communication capabilities including preparation of correspondence, presentations, and board/investor materials.
- Ability to work across technical, regulatory, and financial sectors concurrently.
- Demonstrated independence and aptitude for managing ambiguity in a dynamic environment.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Eligibility to obtain and uphold DOE Q security clearance due to exposure to export-controlled and classified information.
Preferred Expertise
- Experience in high-growth startups, especially in capital-intensive or regulated sectors.
- Direct support experience with government agencies or national laboratories at the executive level.
- Involvement in CEO-level fundraising activities.
- Background in management consulting focused on strategy or operations.
- Familiarity with federal contracting and nuclear regulatory environments.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Position is primarily remote within the U.S. but may require in-person presence in Austin, TX as needed.
- Frequent travel to support external stakeholder meetings and visits to headquarters.
- Ability to work prolonged periods at a computer.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills in English.
