Role Overview
The Chief Investment Officer is a senior executive position tasked with steering the organization’s investment direction and helping deliver long-term financial expansion through disciplined asset management. This role calls for a strong grasp of market movements, investment frameworks, and executive leadership to oversee investment professionals and ensure the portfolio supports the company’s wider financial objectives.
Key Accountabilities
- Set the investment direction and related policies so the portfolio targets strong returns, manages risk appropriately, and stays aligned with organizational priorities.
- Guide the investment team in reviewing opportunities, performing due diligence, and sharing clear recommendations with senior leadership and the board.
- Track portfolio results continuously and adjust strategy as market conditions and investment environments evolve.
- Build and maintain productive relationships with external advisors, investment managers, and institutional clients to expand access to opportunities and strengthen investment capability.
- Identify and control investment risks through structured risk-management practices that satisfy both internal objectives and regulatory expectations.
- Communicate portfolio performance, strategy updates, and market insights to the board, stakeholders, and executive leadership in a clear and organized manner.
- Work closely with finance and operations leaders to ensure investment activity supports the broader financial plan and resource needs.
- Promote sustainable and responsible investing approaches that reflect the organization’s values and social responsibility goals.
- Prepare detailed investment reports for the board, including performance measures, portfolio reviews, and strategic recommendations.
- Monitor global economic developments, financial markets, and regulatory updates to support informed strategic decisions.
Candidate Profile
- At least 15 years of progressive experience in investment management, including 10 or more years in a leadership position within financial services or asset management.
- Hands-on experience building and executing diversified investment strategies across equities, fixed income, alternatives, and real estate.
- Proven ability to coach, develop, and inspire a high-performing investment team while encouraging accountability and continuous improvement.
- Strong analytical capability, with experience using quantitative methods and advanced financial models to assess opportunities and risks.
- Solid understanding of investment-related regulatory, compliance, and risk frameworks at national and international levels.
- Strong relationship-building and negotiation skills for working with institutional investors, stakeholders, and external asset managers.
- Ability to explain complex investment ideas to non-financial audiences and board members while keeping alignment with organizational goals.
- Comfort using technology and financial software systems for portfolio management and analysis.
- Strategic mindset with a proactive approach to identifying market trends, opportunities, and economic indicators that affect performance.
- Strong ethical judgement and decision-making aligned with the organization’s mission and values.
