About the Role
The University of Melbourne is inviting applications for the position of Chief Information Officer (CIO), a unique chance to lead the digital transformation at one of Australia's premier universities. This executive role commands technology innovation, strategic direction, and enterprise-wide IT leadership within a world-renowned institution recognized for outstanding academic achievements, research contributions, and societal impact.
Reporting directly to the Vice President Administration & Finance and Chief Operating Officer, the CIO will be a key figure in the COO Executive Team and instrumental in aligning technological initiatives with the university's Advancing Melbourne 2030 strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and implement a comprehensive digital strategy and transformation projects university-wide.
- Enhance cyber security protocols, advance digital equity, integrate AI technologies, support data-driven research, improve student experience, promote sustainability, and strengthen data governance.
- Lead service excellence and optimize operational efficiencies across the enterprise.
- Foster an inclusive digital culture empowering both staff and students.
- Manage a considerable operating and capital budget exceeding $100 million.
- Direct a diverse team spanning seven sub-portfolios, including Enterprise Technology, Research Computing Services, Academic Technology Services, Cyber Security, and Program Implementation.
Essential Qualifications and Skills
- Outstanding interpersonal skills coupled with strategic vision and change management expertise.
- Demonstrated success in driving digital innovation and transformational initiatives.
- Substantial executive experience as a CIO or in equivalent senior IT leadership roles within complex organizations.
- A minimum of 10 years in progressive IT leadership with at least 5 years at the executive level.
- Formal tertiary education in a relevant field, with advanced postgraduate or executive leadership credentials considered highly advantageous.
