Job description

Role Overview

Our client is a private equity-supported healthcare distribution business with a strong market presence and a broad national customer network. The company has already delivered substantial growth and is now moving into a pivotal stage centered on scaling operations, expanding EBITDA, and preparing for a future liquidity event.

The CFO will work closely with the CEO, the Board of Directors, and the private equity sponsor to execute the company’s value creation agenda while establishing a top-tier finance function. This leader will guide financial performance, reinforce the operating backbone of the business, and oversee all finance-related work through a successful exit process.

This opportunity suits a seasoned finance executive who has performed well in private equity-backed settings and enjoys leading in fast-moving, results-focused organizations.

Strategic Leadership

  • Act as a key advisor to the CEO, Board, and private equity stakeholders on financial direction and business performance.
  • Advance the company’s value creation roadmap by pinpointing ways to lift profitability, improve cash generation, and increase operating efficiency.
  • Provide financial direction for major strategic programs, including acquisitions, integrations, capital spending, and commercial initiatives.

Exit and Transaction Leadership

  • Own transaction-readiness efforts in advance of a future liquidity event.
  • Direct financial due diligence, quality of earnings work, data room setup, and coordination of outside advisors.
  • Work alongside investment bankers, legal advisors, lenders, and potential acquirers throughout the deal process.
  • Lead management presentations and assist with negotiations through to completion.

Financial Management

  • Oversee finance, accounting, FP&A, treasury, tax, and financial reporting activities.
  • Build scalable budgeting, forecasting, and KPI reporting processes that support informed decision-making.
  • Ensure reporting is timely and accurate while maintaining a strong internal control environment.
  • Manage external audits and ensure adherence to GAAP and lender covenants.

Operational Finance

  • Partner with operations, supply chain, sales, and commercial teams to improve margins, optimize working capital, and strengthen overall business results.
  • Lead pricing analysis, inventory optimization, and initiatives designed to improve cash flow.
  • Assess and deploy systems, reporting tools, and workflows that can support future growth and scale.

Team Leadership

  • Build, coach, and develop a high-performing finance team.
  • Attract and retain strong talent while promoting accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement.
  • Set up a finance organization that can support current operations and future expansion.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a proven finance executive with a track record of creating enterprise value in private equity-backed companies.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a closely related field is required; an MBA and/or CPA is preferred.
  • At least 12 years of progressive finance leadership experience, including CFO-level or senior divisional finance leadership.
  • Prior experience in sponsor-backed businesses, with at least one completed sale, recapitalization, or liquidity event.
  • Background in healthcare distribution, medical products, distribution, or another complex multi-location operating environment is strongly preferred.
  • Strong command of financial planning, operational finance, mergers and acquisitions, due diligence, and capital structure management.
  • Experience working with private equity sponsors, lenders, boards, and executive teams.
  • Demonstrated success in building scalable finance teams and improving finance infrastructure in high-growth organizations.

Leadership Characteristics

  • Strategic thinker with a practical, hands-on leadership style.
  • Strong commercial awareness and operational focus.
  • Highly analytical with excellent financial and business judgment.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with high accountability.
  • Strong executive presence and the ability to influence investors, boards, customers, and leadership teams.
  • Proven ability to guide organizations through rapid growth, transformation, and transaction execution.
