About The Baird Institute and the Role

The Baird Institute is Australia's sole independent medical research facility dedicated to cardiothoracic surgical studies. In partnership with the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and the University of Sydney, the Institute supports leading-edge research aimed at enhancing treatments and outcomes for patients with heart disease.

This full-time, permanent CEO position, reporting directly to the Board of Directors, is located in Sydney, NSW with hybrid working arrangements available. The salary package is $140,000 plus 12.5% superannuation.

Role Responsibilities

The CEO will provide visionary leadership to drive the Institute's next phase of growth. Central to this role is the advancement of philanthropy and fundraising efforts, strengthening and expanding partnerships with major donors, trusts, foundations, and corporate backers. The CEO will ensure fundraising achievements translate effectively into impactful research outcomes.

Additional leadership duties include oversight of governance, financial management, communications, and stakeholder engagement. The role requires close collaboration with the Board, research teams, clinicians, and academic partners.

Candidate Profile and Requirements

• Proven success in developing strong relationships with donors, partners, and other stakeholders.
• Ability to inspire confidence and engage diverse groups.
• Strategic thinker with hands-on execution skills.
• Excellent communication, capable of articulating compelling impact stories.
• Experience managing teams or programs within values-driven environments.
• Healthcare or medical research sector experience is highly valued.
