Core Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Chief Information Officer to perform an information technology review at least twice each year.
  • Continuously evaluate compliance policies and operating procedures, recommending updates when needed and advising executive leadership and the Board on emerging regulatory, legal, and compliance risks.
  • Create and maintain a secure process that allows employees to report noncompliance confidentially and without concern for retaliation.
  • Make sure the reporting channel is well communicated, that concerns are investigated quickly, and that every step of the response is properly documented.
  • Design, approve, or oversee third-party compliance training for employees, agents, contractors, and other affiliated parties, while also managing related contracts for effectiveness and adherence.
  • Work with administrative leaders to deliver an ongoing communication strategy so staff stay informed about regulatory obligations and can perform their duties lawfully and ethically.
  • In coordination with Human Resources and Legal, roll out a companywide anti-harassment training program aligned with state and federal requirements.
  • Confirm that appropriate screening controls are in place for management and other sensitive roles so that hires or promotions do not place the organization at risk of unethical or unlawful conduct.
  • Help shape HR policies, performance review processes, incentive programs, and job descriptions so compliance expectations are embedded throughout the organization.
  • Work with executive leaders, Human Resources, and outside counsel when appropriate to run or approve compliance investigations in line with company procedures.
  • Ensure disciplinary policies address acts of noncompliance consistently, including failures to prevent, detect, or report issues, and support appropriate consequences up to termination when warranted.
  • Monitor the closure of investigations and related matters, including corrective action plans and remediation efforts.
  • Carry out compliance vetting for agents and vendors and arrange training when needed.
  • Build strong working relationships across all management levels.
  • Deliver periodic and annual compliance and risk-management reports to the Board of Directors and/or executive leadership.
  • Provide regular updates to the compliance or risk committee and, at the officer’s discretion, escalate matters directly to the Board, principal, or executive management.
  • Coordinate with the Chief Information Officer on data breach response efforts and other crisis-response activity tied to compliance or risk events, ensuring the response team follows FTC guidance.
  • Ensure vendor and agent agreements include compliance obligations and clear directions for reporting misconduct or compliance concerns.
  • Serve as a representative of the Compliance Committee by preparing agendas, reports, and related materials as requested.
  • Monitor completion of compliance and educational training across all relevant topics and assess how effective the training is based on compliance outcomes.
  • Handle additional responsibilities assigned by executive management.
  • Review and update, at least every six months, all policies related to the Safeguards Rule, Identity Theft Prevention Program (Red Flags Rule), Disposal Rule, and any other applicable federal or state requirements.

Requirements

  • At least five years of experience serving as a Chief Compliance Officer or Dealership Compliance Officer.
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required; a master’s degree is preferred.
  • Background in F&I, sales, advertising, or dealership management is considered an advantage.
  • AFIP and/or ADCO certification is required/preferred as listed.
