Position Summary
This senior leadership role requires presence in Sydney or Brisbane, Australia, within the mining and natural resources sector focused on gold and base metals. The company is expanding exploration and production efforts, emphasizing operational excellence, sustainable growth, and safety at remote mining sites. The Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) will provide strategic commercial guidance, engage capital markets, and support Board-level financial decision-making to drive corporate growth and value creation.
Key Responsibilities
- Offer strategic commercial leadership and advice to executives and the Board concerning corporate growth, capital allocation, partnerships, restructuring, and investment prospects.
- Lead commercial assessments of exploration, development projects, acquisitions, joint ventures, and strategic deals.
- Contribute to the budgeting process by delivering commercial assumptions, financial scenario analyses, and long-term planning input.
- Create and maintain financial models evaluating funding needs, project viability, investment returns, and capital deployment tactics.
- Perform scenario and sensitivity analyses addressing commodity prices, operational factors, schedules, funding, and market trends.
- Support fundraising activities, including preparation of commercial analyses and investor presentation materials.
- Develop and nurture relationships with institutional investors, investment banks, analysts, and capital market stakeholders.
- Prepare investor and Board presentations, market updates, commercial reports, and strategic advice documents.
- Monitor industry trends, market dynamics, competitor benchmarking, investor sentiment, and capital market developments.
- Work collaboratively with finance, operations, technical, and corporate units to align commercial strategies with operational execution.
- Ensure all communications and investor materials comply with regulatory and corporate governance standards.
- Drive continuous improvements in commercial processes, capital planning, and strategic decision-making capabilities.
Candidate Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Finance, Economics, Engineering, Business or related fields; advanced qualifications such as MBA, CA, CPA, CFA are highly desirable.
- At least 12 years in corporate development, investment banking, corporate finance, equities research, commercial leadership, or strategy consulting.
- Direct experience in mining, natural resources, metals, energy, or resource development sectors.
- Track record supporting executive teams and Boards of public companies in strategic decision-making and commercial evaluations.
- Experience with capital raising, debt financing, corporate restructures, M&A, joint ventures, and strategic partnerships.
- Strong grasp of corporate finance, valuation methods, capital markets, project economics, and investment evaluation.
- Advanced skills in financial modeling, including complex scenario and valuation models.
- Expertise in public company governance, regulatory reporting, and investor relations best practices.
- Proven ability to prepare strategic Board-level presentations and investment documents.
- Exceptional analytical skills to clearly interpret and communicate complex financial, operational, and technical data.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, negotiation, and relationship-building abilities.
- High integrity, commercial acumen, professionalism, and executive presence.
- Capability to manage dynamic priorities and work effectively under pressure.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
- Proficient English communication skills, both written and spoken.
